The feast is meant to bring everyone together. I wanted to wait until Damon’s group has gotten a
little more comfortable here since arriving before I just threw a big gathering. I woke up early and
went straight to Damon’s hut.
I’ve been making sure to be there first thing in the morning, just in case I happen to find the worst.
Not that I want to be the one to find my best friend dead, but I really wouldn’t want anyone else to find him dead either. I mentally prepare myself on the walk to his hut every morning. I asked him about throwing the feast and he agreed that his pack should be okay enough to handle a
gathering.
I thought about pushing it off another week, but I just want Damon to be here for it. I fear if I wait another week, he might not be here for it. He hasn’t given me any real reason to assume that he’ll kill himself, but I’ve felt his pain before, and I was only able to heal because I got her back. He can’t get Jocelyn back so I’m not too sure he can heal from this. I know he’s strong, but I just don’t know
how strong he is mentally.
Frankly, when his parents died, and he took over as Alpha I don’t think he actually got to take in the fact that his mom was gone. She was his cheerleader in life. She did everything she could to make
sure he was happy and healthy. I thought losing her would be harder on him than it was, but then I
watched him take over as Alpha and he had no time for himself then.
When he lost Jocelyn, he fought like hell to get his pack out of there alive. He didn’t succeed with
the amount of pack members as he would have liked, in fact he barely got any women and children out alive. However, he did get a good amount of his warriors out. Then they had to fight to stay
alive even after that. They’ve been out there or almost two whole years now trying to find safe
access to water and food just to get here.
His pack isn’t too far from here. His pack grounds were in Wyoming, on the other side of the Crow land. I would say maybe a five-hour drive. However, his land and a lot of the Crow land is all desert. Hence the name of his pack. I imagine finding food or water, especially with vamps everywhere, was nearly impossible for a lot of that until they got to Montana. It’s basically mountains here meaning lots of water and lots of greenery. Lots of water and greenery generally mean lots of
animals to hunt.
That’s why our pack has never had to worry much about getting food or water to survive. I don’t know what the rest of Montana looks like these days though. Maybe water and food weren’t as
easy to find as I would have expected. Or at least clean water.

When I got to Damon’s hut this morning, I braced myself before I walked in.
“Brother, good morning. Don’t you ever sleep?” Damon greeted me, sitting up in his bed.
“Not usually. You sleep?” I laughed and joked back with him.

He rolled out of bed and stood up. He didn’t struggle as much this morning to do that as he has been. His strength must be coming back to him a little more.
“How are you feeling this morning?” I asked him.
“Oh you know, like a truck ran me over.” He answered, sarcasm smothering his words.
“Do you think you’re well enough to attend the feast tonight?” I knew he’d say yes regardless of how he felt, but I also wanted to give him an out if he wasn’t quite ready to be in front of everyone just yet. The fact that he’s still alive is surprising enough.
He grabbed the cup of coffee I brought over for him and took a drink, grabbing the counter to support himself. I’m not sure if that’s because he’s weak still or because he just woke up.
He finished his drink with a lip smack and a sigh. A smile appeared on his face as he looked from his cup over to me, “I surely won’t be the life of the party tonight, but I will certainly be there.” He motioned to his body, “Unfortunately, the party animal has not yet been awakened in my healing.” He laughed and took another drink of his coffee.
I had to laugh with him. I felt bad for him, but I had to laugh with him.
He has been coming along with me the last couple of mornings to the wall to check on things with Ash before he goes and rests until he’s back on the wall later. Then we go back to the pack house and eat breakfast with Freya and the kids.
I thought that would be hard on him, but it seems to be something he enjoys. As we walked to the wall, he seemed a bit happier than he had been. I’m not sure if it’s just that he’s getting some strength back, or if he’s getting comfortable with being here. After such a long time being on the run, hiding and fighting for survival, it has to be difficult to adjust to being safe.
He even greeted Ash this morning, which appeared to catch Ash off guard, but he rolled with it. Good man. Once we finished catching up on the activity on the wall last night from Ash we started our walk back to the pack house. We were greeted by Sasha, who seemed like she wanted to ask us more than how we were doing this morning.
“Sasha, is everything okay?” I asked her, trying to push her to just ask what she wanted to ask.
“Alpha, I don’t mean to bother you this morning, but I was hoping I could get some more help in here today? I have more people than normal, and I am a little overwhelmed. I just can’t get to everyone as fast as they need me.” She said as she looked like she might cry.

“Sasha, of course I’ll get you more help in here. Do you want anyone specific? Also, since we do have quite a bit more than just our pack here with both the other packs arriving, I can work on getting you some more permanent help, if you think that would be okay?” I responded to her. I wish she would have told me sooner. I know that Freya has been helping in here with Jessi and bringing Kira in here sometimes. However, they’re not here all day and they’re surely not here every day.
“Oh Alpha!” She said putting her hands together, “Thank you so much!” She came up and hugged me. Usually, I would say that was a bit inappropriate, but it was pretty clear to me that she was feeling quite desperate.
“I don’t need anyone in particular. I just need someone, anyone.” She said.
“I’ll send for someone now, they should be here soon then. If you need anything else Sasha please
don’t wait to ask me. I can understand how the one or two other healers you have in here regularly
might not be enough these days. We can also talk about adding onto your hut too. Got to be a bit
crowded in there, huh?” I asked.
She chuckled nervously, “Yes Alpha. It surely is.” She put her hands together again like she was
going to bow, “Thank you again. Thank you so much.” She said then turned to go back inside.
I mind linked Levi to see if he could get her someone to help out today, maybe even two. He said
he knew just who to send and they’d be on the way soon.
