The Big Sky Alpha novel Chapter 18

FREYA POV

I’ve grown fond of this man. I still worry about how this life change will be for me. I miss Jessi and not being able to even speak to her or text her had been driving me crazy.

He’s been so amazing though. This haze has been really hard on us both, it’s so powerful. It’s getting worse and worse. There’s been more hazes this time around and each one grows in intensity. I’m worried that next time neither of us will be able to control ourselves.

From my understanding it’s not just like this for us because we’ve found our mate, it’s like this for everyone. Colt mentioned having an announcement about that today from the Alpha meeting he had this morning.

When he got to the stage he grabbed everyone’s attention.

“Before we get to the fun, I must address this haze. It’s far more powerful, unpredictable, and frequent than any haze of our past.” he cleared his throat, “There have been rapes and attempted rapes among us, and as my beautiful mate has reminded me, this is beyond the control of those doing it.”

He took a deep breath, watching him address everyone like this was making me excited.

“After discussing with the fellow alphas here this month we’ve come to the conclusion that we need to level out the men to women ratio so everyone can safely have a match for the haze with designated meeting points between them so this issue does not continue.”

The crowd all began to murmur a little, “You may notice none of the pack betas are here tonight, that would be because they’ve all been sent to collect more women to bring here. By mid day tomorrow they will all be here with enough women to even everything out.”

Everyone began applauding, especially the women. Having to not worry about being outnumbered by the men during haze season is a blessing, especially this incredibly powerful one.

“With that said, enjoy the feast! Tonight the annual Alpha Games begin! Gamma Curtis from Blood Moon will be battling against Gamma Alex of the Desert Pack!”

Cheers erupted through the crowd with whistles and applause.

He came to join our pack table for the feast tonight We ate and made jokes, telling stories, and laughed until it was time for us to move to the battle ring. It was a very pleasant evening.

The battle ring looked like a boxing ring, but instead of ropes it was a large cage. The fighters go in and they go until one either gets knocked out, taps out, or is killed. You’re able to use features of your wolf, but you cannot fully shift.

I sat ringside with my parents and brother, the rest of Blood Moon all around us and then there were bleachers behind us and all around where everyone else sat. Colt sat with Alpha Damon. He was telling me earlier that’s the first friend outside of the pack he ever made as a child. He’s the alpha of the Desert Pack.

The fight began and aside from the sounds of the fighting the rage of chaos from the crowd was all you could hear.

I felt a hand rest on my thigh, I looked over expecting to see Colt but I was surprised to see Alpha Aiden. I feel like Colt made it pretty clear that he didn’t like him being around me, but I guess he didn’t take the hint.

“Hey beautiful.” he said, not taking his hand off me.

“Hi Alpha. Enjoying the fight?” I asked trying to move this conversation forward so he’ll remove his hand. It’s not working yet.

“I’m more enjoying the view.” He was looking right at me.

I lightly chuckled, shifting in my seat, beginning to feel a little uncomfortable. He’s very attractive, but I’m just not into him like that.

Keegan leaned over and in a low voice only I could hear asked, “Want me to break his hand?”

I nodded no, but I began feeling the intensity of Colt’s gaze. He was not happy.

I moved Alpha Aiden’s hand off my leg and stood asking if he or Keegan wanted a drink, and then I walked off. My drink was still about half full, but I needed out of that weird encounter.

I downed my drink then walked over to get another!

“You look ravishing tonight, Freya.” Alpha Aiden said standing behind me. He followed me out.

“Oh, umm… T-thank you, Alpha.” I said, feeling a bit off by the way he was acting tonight. I turned around to face him and before I knew it he was kissing me.

I pushed him off me, “What are you doing?” I asked, very surprised and rather offended.

“I’m sorry, I just had to. You’re too good for Colt, I just wanted you to know you have other options.” he said, I’m beginning to realize he might be drunk. think I’ve decided I don’t want that second drink now.

“What makes you think you’re a better judge of who she should be with than the moon goddess?” I heard Colt ask from behind me.

His tone was surprisingly calm. I could sense his anger though, I’m not sure how he can stay so calm when another alpha is challenging him like this.

“The moon goddess makes mistakes sometimes, that’s why rejection is an option.” he said, he is not masking his tone in any way, he’s obviously upset.

“You can believe as you wish, Alpha.” Colt stepped over to stand beside me. “I believe Freya is a fully capable woman. If she wanted other choices she would find them herself.” he possessively placed his hand on my lower back, I felt my insides light up and I think he could feel it too because he looked down at me smiling.

“I certainly don’t think she needs an Alpha who’s had a few too many throwing himself at her like she’s an afterthought.” and with that he offered me his hand and we began to walk away. We got maybe 10 steps away when we heard Alpha Aiden.

“I challenge you in battle Alpha Colt!” he yelled after us, making Colt stop. I looked up at him and his face grew very serious. He let go of my hand and turned, swiftly walking up to Aiden. I thought he was going to punch him right there, I think Aiden did too because it looked like he braced himself.

“Sober up, we will fight in 2 nights. No drinking, no hangovers. That way when I kick your ass you can’t make up any excuses.” How does he stay so put together like this. It’s such a turn on.

“Accepted, Colt.” Alpha Aiden spat back at Colt with obvious disgust.

“Can’t wait, Alpha Aiden.” Colt said back with such a forceful demeanor that angered Aiden even more.

He walked back over to me and offered me his hand. I smiled at him and walked with him back to my seat where Colt stayed with me. I saw him nod over to Alpha Damon, he nodded back. I believe that was some kind of way of saying he’s sitting over here?

Curtis won the fight with his challenger tapping out! We congratulated him and my father offered him a celebratory drink. He does not have to fight again unless he accepts a challenge. The battle is over for the night, we began saying our good nights to everyone and Colt walked back with me to the pack house.

When we got there, I was surprised to see Beta Luke. I was even more surprised when I heard a familiar voice.

“Oh. My.Goddess. You’re actually mated to Alpha Colt!” Jessi screamed as she ran over to me wrapping me in a hug.
