The Big Sky Alpha novel Chapter 24

When we arrived for dinner my parents found us immediately.

“Freya!” mom hugged me, “You’re so beautiful.” she held me at arm’s length to admire the outfit.

“Georgia wore something similar to this when she was Luna, before she died.” my mother said.

“Who’s Georgia ?” I asked.

“My mother.” Colt said from beside me.

I guess I should have put two and two together there, clearly she’d be the last Luna.

“Stunningly beautiful woman, the war paint always drew out her gold eyes.” my mother said, reminiscing. I didn’t even know they knew each other.

They sat with us for dinner. My mother asked if we’d put any thought into the wedding and Luna ceremony. My stomach turned at the mention of the Luna ceremony.

“Not yet, I’m sure we’ll get to it soon. Especially since Jessi is here now.” I smiled. “Thank you by the way, and now she’s mated to Levi so my best friend will be staying here with me!”

My parents congratulated them and Colt made sure my parents knew they always have a place here too so they can visit whenever they’d like.

“Where’s Keegan?” I asked my father.

“He found his mate in the Crescent River Pack in the group of women they brought in.” my dad began, not sounding as happy as I thought he would be about it. “That Alpha Aiden is giving him a hard time about allowing her to come with him back home or even just to get to know her.”

Oh, now I see. I wonder why Aiden would be making a big deal about a fated pair. I guess maybe I just don’t understand alphas very well.

Colt looked a bit upset by the news, but my mom just scoffed.

“Power has gone to his head.” she motioned to Colt “Your battle tomorrow will hopefully remind him he isn’t as amazing as he thinks he is.” she seems to have a real distaste for Aiden, I wonder what happened there.

When everyone was done eating we headed over to the ring. Colt went to the ring to announce the fighters and Levi led Jessi and me to our seats. There was a little chatter behind us. From what I could gather it was about the new Luna. The nerves that raced through me were overwhelming but I tried keeping myself together as best I could.

“Thank you all for coming tonight.” Colt began. “I’m glad to see many new lovely faces joining us as we all work together to get through this haze. Please join me in welcoming to the ring Gamma Mari of Big Sky and Gamma Mike of Silver Moon.”

He stepped out of the ring and the crowd applauded and cheered for the fighters. He began walking toward me when his eyes grew dark in anger and he paused. Alpha Aiden came and sat right next to me in Colt’s seat.

“You’re in my mate’s seat, Alpha.” I said as nice as I possibly could, but there was still a hint of disdain in my voice.

“It will be mine soon enough baby.” he said as he stared at me.

“Are you drunk again, Alpha?” he’s acting a lot like he did last night.

“Sober as can be love.” this wasn’t going to end well, I had a bad feeling. “I am fighting your mate to morrow night and when I win you’ll be mine, as will this pack.”

I stood abruptly and walked away. If I stayed and listened to that man any longer I was going to begin acting out of anger. All I can think about is this isn’t the place to not act like a Luna.

“You know…” he said as he clearly didn’t take the hint that I was wanting away from him because he followed me, again, “Your mate and I have battled before.” not news to me. “In and out of the ring.” well, that was news to me.

It’s not news enough to entertain this man though.

“Alpha, what do you want? Why do you keep following me?” I asked just trying to figure out how to put an end to this ridiculousness.

He chuckled and shook his head while he looked at me, “You really aren’t getting it are you? I want you Freya.” Yeah, I knew this wasn’t going to be good.

“Alpha, I’m mated. I’m marked! This needs to stop. said, barely keeping calm.

“He’s no good for you Freya! He can’t give you a good life he can only give you this place! A woman like you deserves more!” He said, walking toward me.

“That’s enough!” Colt’s voice thundered. He was coming up behind Aiden. “You and I will settle this in the ring tomorrow.” he walked up to me and possessively placed his hand on the small of my back.

“Damn it, I am not a prize to be won!” I shouted. “You two can have your d**k measuring contest tomorrow night, but leave me out of it!” I threw my hands in the air and walked off.

“Where are you going?” Colt hollered after me.

“To watch the battle.” I said just loud enough for him to hear and though part of me wanted him to follow me, part of me really wanted him to just leave me alone for a while.

Who the hell do they think they are? Talking about me like I’m just an object that can be passed from one to the other, pisses me off.

COLT POV

“What the hell is your problem, Aiden?” I know it’s not just that he wants Freya. He can say that all he wants but I know better. Now Freya’s mad because she thinks I’m treating her like a prize. I’m actually pretty worried about Aiden’s intentions, she doesn’t know him like I do.

“Don’t pretend you know me, brother.” he spat back.

“She’s off limits Aiden. Our feud can continue between just you and me.” I told him.

“I’ll take back this pack tomorrow Colt. And she will come with it.” he threatened.

“You can’t take back anything that wasn’t yours to begin with. I’m the first born so the pack has always been mine.” our father slept with another pack’s Luna. The alpha of that pack never had any children of his own before he died so his step son Aiden became alpha of that pack, but that’s never been good enough, he wants them both. He never even lived here!

It’s not going to happen, but he’s sure going to try to take me down.

“When I win tomorrow, I will kill you. As the next in line, this will be my pack and to put the cherry on top, she’ll be my Luna whether she wants to or not.” he said in such a smug way, it really made me wonder how the hell he came from my father.

“We’ll see how tomorrow plays out, little brother.” I made sure to emphasize the little part. “Until then, leave her alone.”

I went back to go sit with Freya and finish watching the battle.
