The Big Sky Alpha novel Chapter 25

FREYA POV

That battle was intense. Mike fought hard but Mari took the win with a knock out. Everyone celebrated from Big Sky with a round of mead and Colt made sure to congratulate him on the win.

Colt, Levi, Jessi and I walked back to the pack house together. When Colt got back from that weird encounter with Aiden he apologized for the way he acted. Said he’d explain later, but Aiden has always had a way of getting to him.

On the way back I noticed that I started feeling really warm. Colt reached over and took the headdress off of me. The haze, again! I looked around and Jessi and Levi were gone.

“Place your clothes in a pile here, Freya.” Colt instructed me.

“We’re going on a run!” Stella said to me.

Once I was free of all the Luna gear I walked over to Colt. I wanted him inside me now, but he stopped me and reminded me our wolves need this time just like we did.

I shifted, Stella’s red fur shining in the moonlight. I could see Max through her eyes, his large grey body towered hers, but nothing about him was scary or intimidating.

They ran for what felt like ever. They came to a meadow clearing and began playing. After a while they marked each other and completed their mating rituals.

It was hard taking control back after watching them together, their love for each other was beautiful. I knew one day that would be me and Colt.

Once we did gain control back and we shifted we found our clothes and dressed in the bare minimum to get back to our room. Stella was on cloud 9 and I was exhausted. All these hazes and their intensity, hiking around and the late nights after the battles, I’m ready to sleep.

We showered to get the war paint off and wash the evening away. I felt very far away from him.

Tonight, even when his hands were washing my body.

We got in bed and he snuggled up to me. I didn’t move, I was still feeling off about the night.

“He’s my brother, Freya.” he said out of nowhere.

“Your brother?” I asked turning toward him. “How would he be the alpha of another pack?”

He sighed, “My parents were very happy together, but my dad left to go to an Alpha Games at the Crescent Moon pack and the haze hit. Somehow he ended up being alone with the pack Luna during the haze. She got pregnant.”

I can tell in his voice that this really bothers him.

“The alpha died without having any kids of his own, so his step son Aiden became alpha.”

I was completely shocked. At first I wanted to be mad that he never told me, but then I remembered I haven’t even known this man for a whole week yet.

“Why does he seem to want some kind of revenge toward you then?” I asked, very confused by this. “He told me that if he beats you tomorrow this pack is his and so am I. How does this work, Colt?” My thoughts were getting to me, now I was feeling really concerned. “Do I need to be worried?”

He got on top of me, making me look directly into his eyes.

“He isn’t going to win, Freya. I know you’ve never seen me fight, but trust me when I purebred Big Sky will always outmatch a halfling.” he kissed me.

He laid back next to me and sighed, “He’s always wanted to be alpha of Big Sky. Being alpha of his pack isn’t good enough.” he shook his head.

“Does it bother you that he wants to be alpha?” I know any alpha is bothered when someone wants their place, but Colt speaks of this pack like it’s the most wonderful thing in the world.

“It bothers me more the lengths he’s willing to go to to try.” Colt smiled, “This pack would never accept him as alpha though, he’s not pure Big Sky.”

That made me wonder if they’d accept our children.

“Our children wouldn’t be pure Big Sky. So our son wouldn’t end up as alpha?” I’m not really sure why I cared, kids are a topic I really am not concerned about right now, but I’m curious.

“Freya” he sat up straight “do you not know your heritage?” he looked at me in shock.

“What is that supposed to mean?” my heritage? my father is from Blood Moon, pretty sure my mom is too.

“Freya, you’re Big Sky.” he said, rather serious like, but obviously a joke. I’m clearly Blood Moon.

“Whatever Colt.” I playfully smacked his arm as I giggled.

“My great great grandfather had a brother that was banished from Big Sky because of his obsession with being alpha, he kept trying to kill my great great grandfather to take his role. When he left he took many other Big Sky members that agreed to follow him. He created Blood Moon.” he told me like he was giving a history lesson.

I’ve lived in Blood Moon my whole life, I’ve never heard this before.

“I find it very unlikely Colt, I’ve never heard this story before.” I shrugged.

“You can ask Harland tomorrow. You should also ask your mother what pack she was before she mated with your father.” he said shrugging, mimicking me.

Is this why my mother has such a distaste for Aiden? Was she Big Sky? Is this how she knew Colt’s mother? A bunch of questions coming to mind now Am I purebred Big Sky? What does any of this mean?

I looked at Colt and I knew he could feel my uncertainty.

“I assumed you knew Freya, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to drop three big bombs on you at once.” he put his hand on my thigh.

“So, I’m Big Sky. Meaning our children will be Big Sky.” I said trying to wrap my head around it all.

“What do you mean purebred is stronger than a halfling?”

Colt chuckled, he moved himself so he could sit facing me instead of beside me. I imagine I’m about to get a lesson in Big Sky. He smiled.

“Big Sky is the oldest pack. Our bloodlines are of the original werewolves thousands of years ago. We’ve been on this mountain before anyone else ever knew this land existed. We’re the originals. There’s no pack on Earth that doesn’t have this bloodline, but it’s not pure anymore like ours is. You’re pure because not only is your father a direct descendent but your mother was born here.” the pride he felt telling that little story to me washed through me.

I could feel his power, his pride, his love for his pack, and it made me happy.

My parents have some explaining to do. Sleep is not going to come easy to me tonight.
