The Big Sky Alpha novel Chapter 61

FREYA POV

At dinner Levi thrived in the chaos leading up to his battle. Like Colt, he didn’t eat before his battle, instead he and Colt decided to talk about previous battles by each other’s side.

Watching them reminisce and laugh together was really nice. Knowing they have a great bond helps me understand why he’s the beta. They grew up together and ever since they were little their parents had them planned as a team and they started out as best friends.

Their bond has helped them through battles, through hard choices, and through rough seasons in the pack.

Jessi was another story right now. She tried so hard to laugh at their stories and act like she wasn’t a complete nervous wreck but it was very clear to anyone who knew her that she was not taking this well.

I mind linked her, “You need to get out of your head girl. He needs to have you on his side.”

“Like you weren’t a nervous wreck before Colt fought.” She reminded me.

I reminded her, “Yeah, but the guy he fought was his brother hell bent on killing him and taking over his pack.”

“I just can’t lose him Freya!” She cried, barely holding it together.

“I understand, but most of these battles don’t end in death. Levi will be fine.” I walked over and put my hand on her shoulder.

The conversation was private and in our heads but her becoming more and more unraveled was about to be quite public if she couldn’t get a grip of herself.

“Deep breath Jess.” I whispered to her.

She closed her eyes and took a deep, very shaky, breath in and blew it out. She repeated a few times and when she was calm enough to not completely lose it in front of everyone she started smiling.

Just in time because now it was time to head over to the ring. Colt mind linked me, “She’s probably freaking out because he’s battling Aiden’s beta, Kris.” I wasn’t aware of that myself. I guess i can see why she’s much more worried than i expected she’d be.

“Is that bad?” I asked him.

“Their pack is mourning the loss of their alpha and he’s technically in line to be their alpha. It wouldn’t be decided until they go home but he feels he has something to prove.” He said. I looked at Jessi, thanking the goddess this is all being said in our mind linked because she’s barely holding on as it is.

“He’s a strong warrior Freya, I’m sure he’ll do just fine.” Colt grabbed my hand and lead me to our seats. Jessi sat next to me and i reminded myself that I am her best friend and her Luna, i need to be her rock. I breathed in quietly and exhale slowly calming my own nerves so i can be what she needs right now.

The fighters entered the ring, Levi first. He is very energetic and radiates confidence which makes me feel better, for a second. Then Kris entered the ring, radiating pure rage.

I shook my concerns from my head as everyone cheered the battle to begin. When the bell ra the bell signaling them to fight i instantly felt Jessi’s hand grab my leg. I placed mine on hers and watched as Kris’s fist connected to Levi’s jaw. Blood sprayed instantly. Levi stumbled back a little and regrouped.

Now, Levi was mad. He held his hands up in fighting stance as Kris did the same. Kris took another powerful swing and missed, then Levi jabbed Kris in the face right by the eye.

Kris looked like he was going down but instead he grabbed Levi’s waist and forced him down to the ground. They wrestled back and forth tossing each other around fighting for control on top.

Each time one of them got control they lost it pretty quickly. Kris made it to the top and grabbed Levi’s head and slammed it back down on the ground. I heard a very faint growl come from Colt.

I looked at Jessi and saw the tears threatening to fall from her eyes. She was silent in the chaos of the crowd. I looked back up and Levi shoved his fist up into Kris’s nose. He cussed as blood squirted out, but Levi threw him off him and stood up. He looked to be struggling, he stumbled over his feet and kept shaking his head like a fly was buzzing by his ear.

Kris growled and dove for Levi, Levi stumbled out of the way and hit the side of the cage. Kris turned quickly just as Levi was turning around and Kris swung a right hook that connected with Levi’s head on the side. He dropped to the ground. Still conscious, Levi began trying to get up but Kris tangled his body up with Levi’s trying to pin him to the ground.

I could tell something looked wrong, because Levi’s eyes looked like they could barely stay open. Levi was a fighter though, he shifted just his mouth and ripped at the flesh of Kris’s arm, causing his skin to rip open and blood started spraying.

Levi kicked his legs around and Kris fell off of him, blood still squirting out of his arm all over the cage. Levi jumped over with his mouth still shifted and ripped into Kris’s thigh causing blood to squirt out more.

He still had flesh hanging from his mouth as he stood over Kris. He looked to us, his pack. Right away Colt and the whole pack began to howl. I quickly told Jess to howl with us and she did, barely.

Levi knelt down and ripped Kris’s throat out. The bell rang signaling Levi’s victory. Our pack began cheering but the cheers were stopped pretty quickly when suddenly Levi collapsed.

Jessi began screaming, I grabbed her and held on tight as Colt climbed over to enter the cage. Within seconds he had Levi in his arms trying to get him to talk to him.

Jessi began smacking me and screaming for me to let go of her, but I knew I couldn’t. I needed to know he was alive before I could let her go.
