The Big Sky Alpha novel Chapter 62

FREYA POV

After what felt like an hour, but was really only a moment, Colt mind linked that he was alive. I grabbed Jessi so she’d look at me “He’s alive Jess, he needs to see the healers.” Colt and a few gammas took him to the healer’s hut. I went with Jessi, following them there.

When they laid him on the bed she pushed everyone away so she could be by his side. Everyone walked out except me and Colt. I stood there feeling so helpless watching Jessi sob uncontrollably.

The healers all walked in, no one needed to tell them what happened they watched it just as we did.

“I think it’s a concussion. That hit to the ground was unsportsmanlike, and I knew right away there would be damage but that second blow to the head…” the healer Sasha clicked her tongue to her teeth, “I think that’s what did it.”

Jessi couldn’t take her eyes off him.

“What’s happening to him? Why won’t he wake up?” She cried out.

“We won’t know entirely how bad this, is until we get a full look at him dear.” Sasha said as she looked at me with knowing and very sorry eyes.

I bent down to her and grabbed her hand, “They need you to step back so they can examine him Jess.”

She ripped her hand away from me, “I’m not leaving him!” She yelled.

“I’m not saying to leave Jess, I’ll stay here with you. We just need to back away from the bed and let them look at him.” I grabbed her hand again. She stood up from the bedside, not looking away from him at all, and let me guide her just a few steps back where Colt has moved a couple chairs for us to sit in.

It felt like hours and hours crept by as we watched then go from one side of the bed to the other talking among themselves and opening his eyes and shining lights everywhere. They turned his head to examine the back of his head, which was bloody. They cleaned it up and continued working.

Jessi sat there crying leaving her eyes on him. I looked over at Colt several times behind us. He’d lean against the wall, then pace back and forth, then lean against the wall over and over again.

My best friend and my mate both feeling lost and helpless as their best friend and mate are laying motionless in a bed possibly fighting to stay alive.

Finally, Sasha came over to us still covered in blood from Levi’s head, “He definitely has a concussion, a pretty bad one. Right now, our primary concern is a coma probably followed by death fairly quickly.” She looked at Colt, “We are all in agreement Alpha, he needs to go to the hospital in Kalispell. He’s beyond our medicine.”

Colt nodded. They quickly gathered up a few things as gammas came rushing in and carefully grabbing him and heading out. Colt told me to go with Jess down the mountain and he’d meet us there with some of her things.

It took a couple hours to get to the bottom of the mountain and load him up in one of the cars, two gammas, a healer, and Jessi got in as Colt handed Jessi a bag with some stuff for her.

“We can’t leave right now, but daily until you’re back home we will swap out gammas who will relay information. I love you Jess!” I hugged her.

Colt held me as we watched them drive off. The walk back up the mountain was quiet, neither of us really knew what to say. When we got back to the pack Colt called on two warriors to meet us at the pack house.

Ash met us with one other warrior.

“I have a bad feeling about this. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that it was Aiden’s beta. Max patrols tonight, don’t let anyone in and don’t let anyone wander without a tail.” Colt ordered.

“Are we thinking the same thing alpha?” Ash asked.

“Yes Ash. I’m heading to speak with the Oracle now.” Colt answered.

Ash nodded and then turned and disappeared in the trees.

I wasn’t too sure what it was we were thinking, but Colt did not appear in the mood to answer questions.

Eunice was sitting in the lounge of the pack house and he stood as soon as we walked in.

“Before you ask alpha, I have no updates on the attack.” He said lowering his head, “I can’t tell you if this has anything to do with Aiden out of this was intentional or if it’s his pack that is going to attack.”

“Why doesn’t she want us to know more?” Colt asked, not to anyone in particular. He looked up like someone talking to the sky would get the goddess’s attention. “Please goddess!” He begged her for something.

“The only thing’s I’ve seen recently are more geared toward you, Freya.” He motioned to my belly.

Colt stopped and looked at Eunice as he motioned to my belly. “What did you see? Is something wrong?” He asked and suddenly a rush of fear shot through me as Colt thought the worst.

“Quite the contrary alpha. You’re having a boy and a girl Freya. The goddess wanted to show me your boy will be the first born. Big Sky will have a future alpha.” He said. “I understand now isn’t excellent timing for good news, but I don’t like holding things off until the right time hits.”

I rubbed my belly and smiled. Twins. A little boy and a little girl. I could feel Colt’s pride as the news registered to him.

“In the chaos of the evening Eunice, I think now was the perfect time to tell us.” Colt said as he smiled at me.

That smile was short lived as a faint bell could be heard in the distance. I looked around us as everyone began running around, the head chef in the kitchen froze and stood in place before she suddenly snapped out of it and she ran back to the kitchen.

I looked back at Colt who’s eyes were glowing like magma.

“We’re under attack.” He growled.
