COLT POV
We walked around the pack for a while assessing the casualties and damage. Thankfully, I made sure our pack members were ready for an attack. Which reminds me that I need to ask Eunice if he’s willing to come live here. I imagine he’ll want to leave soon since the attack happened.
It was very early morning, dark and a bit before sunrise, when the attack happened so most of the other pack leaders, if not all of them, would have been in the northern end of the pack grounds. Our pack members, aside from warriors, would have been in their own huts which was further North on the grounds than the battle made it up to.
All in all, casualties for our pack would have been warriors. We will be holding a proper burial service for them, they died with the most honor anyone in our pack could ever hope for. In Big Sky, dying defending and protecting our pack is the highest honor. I could only hope that’s how I’d die.
I kept looking over to Freya, what she did was more than I could have ever imagined my Luna doing. She’s pregnant, defending our pack, and protecting the warriors. Now, she’s out here talking to our pack members about their family and friends we’re collecting from the battle scenes.
Damages are pretty much just bodies, they set a couple huts on fire but they’ve burned out. They weren’t huts that were in use at the moment, nor were they near other huts so nothing else caught flame.
“Total damages are minimal Alpha.” Ash pretty much repeated my thought to me. “Total casualties of our pack is 26.” He added.
I looked around at all the bodies. There were so many, “Are we sure of that? There’s an awful lot of bodies here for ours to only account for 26 of them.” I asked.
“There are 26 of our pack along these bodies, Alpha, but we have not gone further south where the bells are. They may have killed those warriors when they realized they were alerting us.” He answered.
Freya walked up behind me saying “Please send a group down that way to gather more information on those warriors.” Ash nodded and turned to do just as she said.
She looked at me, “We need to find out how those witches are doing and update them on the status of their prisoner.”
“Are you thinking something happened to them?” I asked. The horrible thought of the never ending haze crept to mind.
“I’m not sure the details of her escape, but I worry since she was the one that killed the last witch beginning all that trouble.” She stated, rather bluntly. I noticed she wasn’t saying Jasmine’s name though.
I grabbed her arm as she turned to walk away, “Are you okay, Freya?”
She looked down at the bloody dress, “Well, I just killed someone, I used my abilities tonight in a way I didn’t even know was possible, our pack was just attacked, and I found out the Luna abilities completely transform the way I think and feel when my pack is in danger. So, um…” she shrugged, “Yeah I guess so.”
“I guess I really didn’t think about the fact that, other than rogues, you might not have killed anyone before.” I said to her as I thought back to when I first killed someone.
It’s different than killing an animal or a rogue. Really, killing a rogue is a lot like killing an animal because they no longer have their human side, it’s there but it’s dormant.
Killing a person though, it’s harder. Especially, if they’re in human form when you do it. Jasmine was someone that Freya took pity on because of the way I handled things. She thought she was rid of having to worry about her anymore when we gave her to the witches. Tonight, she knew about Jasmine before I did and she came out and did what needed to be done for our pack.
She put the safety of our pack above her tonight, like a Luna should.
Ash came up behind me, “Alpha, there are four more down around the area of the bells. 30 is our casualty total.”
“Considering the amount of bodies here, I would say our pack held their own tonight amazingly.” I said.
“Actually, I think the small number of deaths is to be credited to our Luna. If she hadn’t put that protective barrier around us when we were in battle we probably would have lost much more.” He smiled.
He was absolutely right, I was stabbed twice and didn’t feel it. Who knows how many would have died if it wasn’t for her shield.
After a few hours I instructed Ash and several others of what I wanted them to do before anyone was to rest up. Then, I went and found Freya. I made her come with me back to the pack house so we could clean up and rest. She needs to rest after the night we just had and now we’re in a new day already.
She’s proved she’s a strong woman today, not that I cared either way. She is carrying twins though, so she needs to get as much rest as she can. Our women are generally pregnant about six months. She is having twins though so she will likely have them early, about five months. She only has a few months left at this point.
I was flooded with desire for her this morning. When we got to our room she walked over to the bed and turned to look at me. I can’t really explain it, but looking at her in that white dress covered in the blood of the enemy really got me excited.
Max had wanted to rip out and take her the second she killed Jasmine. She is everything I never knew I wanted in my mate.
She knew what I was wanting and she made it clear that she wanted it to. She called me with her finger to the bed. Both covered in the blood of those who attacked our pack. F**k I love this woman!
The perfect mate. The perfect Luna. My perfect Freya!
