FREYA POV
Sitting in the nursery with Jessi the next day reminded me of our first haze. Gossip central. She wanted the juicy details of everything.
Thankfully the twins aren’t crawling yet and her boy is still too young, so we’re able to have long conversations while they play, sleep, and eat.
Giving her the details was like second nature. We’ve always talked about everything together, so my incredible date with my husband was no different.
Jessi was just given the all clear for her healing so she was hoping to have a special night with Levi tonight. She wanted to surprise him.
“If that man isn’t as excited about this as i am then i might need a new mate!” She laughed as she joked with me.
“What man goes six weeks without sex and isn’t excited when he gets to have sex?” I asked her in a sarcastic voice.
We both turned quickly to the door when we heard Colt laugh, “That kind of man doesn’t exist.”
He stood in the doorway propped against the door frame.
“You better be right.” Jessi laughed at Colt’s answer.
He walked in and sat next to me on the floor with the kids, he likes to lay next to them and talk to them, usually talking turns into tickles and the cutest baby giggles!
Suddenly and very abruptly Levi comes into the room, “Alpha, a young girl has been injured and i think you both need to take a look at this.” He said.
I looked at Colt who sat up quickly, “is she okay?” He asked.
Levi just looked at him, “Alpha, you need to see it.” The tone of his voice was very concerning.
Jessi watched the kids so Colt and I could go with Levi to check on this young girl.
When we got to Sasha’s we entered a room with a young teen girl laying in a bed with an injury to her neck. Sasha was tending to the wound, i couldn’t quite get a good look at it but i was honestly more concerned about the young girl.
Well, i was until Colt pushed a man helping Sasha out of the way so he could look at the girl’s neck.
“That’s impossible.” He muttered.
The girl was crying and her mother sitting with her was too.
“What happened?” Colt asked, his tone made me realize there was something horribly wrong, i just didn’t know what.
The girl spoke to Colt as calmly as she could manage, but she was rather hysterical. “My friends and i were dumb, we decided we were going to head down to the town and see…” she sobbed, “I don’t really know what we wanted to see. Just a different life i guess.” Her mother tried to calm her, but she was less than calm herself.
“We didn’t make it to the town. We got to the bottom of the mountain, or close to it I think. Then we heard branches cracking. I panicked, i thought it was rogues. I only just got my wolf!
She sobbed.
Colt looked over at me and i just eyed him. I don’t understand what’s going on, but he seems to know all too well.
“How many were there?” He asked the girl,
She took a deep breath and closed her eyes like she was remembering something. “Four, i think.” She answered. Four of what? She said she thought it was rogues so was it? Is she infected like i was?
“Where are your friends?” He asked.
Her mother answered this time, “They brought her to me, i sent them home and i brought her straight here.” She was about as hysterical as her daughter was. This emotion seems odd given it was an attack, she looks okay just a little neck wound. Sasha has a bandage over it now and it doesn’t cover her neck, just a small spot of it. She’s conscious so if it’s an infection it can be treated.
“I-i don’t understand.” I said to Colt.
He looked at me with horror in his eyes, though his demeanor read sorrow, like he was grief stricken.
“She was attacked by vampires.” He said.
“Vampires?” I said really not sure i believed him. Sure they’re real, everyone knows that but they live on one continent with the humans and it’s far from here. No one has ever heard of them being anywhere near here.
“Yes.” He looked down at the girl. Then it hit me, if she was attacked by vampires she likely got bitten. Vampire bites are deadly to werewolves.
I gasped as the realization set in. This young girl’s time is coming to an end, the emotion makes sense now.
My heart is breaking looking at this poor girl facing the reality of her situation.
“How long do I have Alpha?” She asked him, puffy red eyes and tears streaking her face.
He grabbed her hand in his as he knelt down beside the bed. “I don’t know sweetie. It could be hours it could be days. There’s no straight answer for that.” Her mother started sobbing more.
I walked over and placed my hand on the mother’s shoulders, “Make the best of however long you do have. I wish there was something that could be done. I am so sorry.” I began tearing up and Colt kissed the girl’s hand and stood to leave.
When we walked out of the hut I turned to Colt and asked what we do next.
“Talk to the friends. I need to know more.” He said as he started walking. He knows his pack well so he knew who the friends were that she would have gone with.
He suddenly stopped in his tracks and turned to me, “Do you have your abilities back?” He asked.
“Even if i did Colt, i can’t heal that poor girl.” I responded, hating that i couldn’t have healed her if i tried.
He shook his head, “No, i mean can you talk to the goddess? Just to find out if there’s maybe a cure or something?” His question made sense.
“I don’t know. I haven’t tried to use my abilities.” I said, this situation felt so defeating. “But I’ll try.” I kissed him and turned to go find Eunice. If I’m going to be able to use any abilities i think I’ll need his help.
