FREYA POV
I went to the pack house looking for Eunice to help me figure out how to use my abilities again. I haven’t been able to use them since I was poisoned and since I died I haven’t even tried.
I knocked on the door to his room. When he answered the door it didn’t appear that he was very happy to see me.
“I’m here to ask…” I began before he stopped me.
“I know why you’re here Luna. I’ll help you, but we need to talk about these vampires first.” He said very matter of fact like.
I was surprised, “You knew about them? Why didn’t you tell us?” I asked.
He sighed, “What I know I only have just seen. I was not aware the girl would be attacked.” He placed his fingers on the bridge of his nose, looking like he was trying to suppress the pain of a headache.
“Freya, the vision I just had concerns me, and I’m not entirely sure how to tell you what I just saw.” He said plopping himself down on the bed.
I took this as my cue to close the door behind me and sit down.
“Whatever it is Eunice, we need to know. We have no idea what we’re dealing with here.” I said trying to hide the panic in my voice.
He sat for a second and thought, he was clearly choosing the words he was going to say.
Finally he said, “One of the vampires is a woman, a very old and very manipulative woman that looks strikingly young and attractive.” The way he said that was a little odd. “She has, umm, charm.” He said, but the way he said it told me that charm wasn’t the word he wanted to use.
“Eunice, just tell me. Don’t tip toe around whatever it is.” I told him, feeling a little annoyed.
“She’s a seductress, she’s able to make someone feel very comfortable with her and will seduce whoever she wants.” He said bluntly.
I gasped, “Are you saying she’s going to try to seduce Colt?” I asked.
He shook his head, “Not Colt.” He kept his eyes on me.
I laughed. That’s ridiculous, “Me? Eunice I’m not interested in women, and I’m married to Colt. Your vision must be wrong.” I said still laughing. That is the most outrageous thing I’ve heard.
“Freya, you’re not understanding. Just because you’re a woman doesn’t mean she can’t seduce you. She is going to and you’re powerless to it!” He said with an awful lot of emotion. “She will do it Freya. Please do not think she won’t, vampires are very different from you. They’re different from anyone else the goddess has created. Do not underestimate them or they’ll kill you all.” He warned. As Eunice told me this almost in tears I figured whatever he saw must have really upset him.
“Okay Eunice, I understand. What do I do then?” I asked him.
“First, let’s see if you still have your abilities. Talking to the goddess would benefit us greatly.” He said standing and clapping his hands together.
A few hours went by and I was feeling hopelessly defeated. I couldn’t do a simple ability let alone communicating with the goddess! I was feeling like all hope was lost with my abilities.
Eunice sat me down in the middle of the meadow and had me close my eyes. He began rubbing my scalp which felt incredible. He started talking to me in a very calming rather monotone voice. After a few minutes I realized I could smell lavender quite well, though I don’t recall seeing any nearby.
It became apparent that he was trying to calm me. He was telling me to get out of my head and to release all the negative energy I have inside of me from everything that has happened.
The more he spoke and rubbed my head the more calm I got, the more relaxed body felt, and the more relaxed my head seemed to be.
He told me to open my eyes and try the simple light ability. I tried and nothing happened. I tried again and nothing happened, but this time I felt something. A few more times and I was able to perform the ability.
I was ecstatic! My abilities were still with me! Granted, they’re very Rusty almost like the first time I ever tried to use them but I have them!
I couldn’t wait to tell Colt!
Oh, but wait. Colt is trying to find out more about what happened to that poor girl. I’m supposed to be trying to speak with the goddess to find a cure. I can’t stop now, I have to keep going.
Hours past, it was dark now. I told Eunice to go ahead home and eat, I needed to keep working on this.
He tried to convince me that I needed to go and eat too and be with my kids and even though I really wanted to, I felt guilty. I get to go home and be with my kids who are healthy while this poor girl is on her death bed and could very well be dying any moment.
Colt tried to link me telling me to come home, but I told him I was too busy.
After another hour or so I could sense him.
“I’ll be there when I’m done Colt.” I said almost snapping at him.
He sighed, “Freya I understand. I feel it too, but you need to eat you have kids who need their mother, and after today I really need my wife. We will try again tomorrow. You’re no good to anyone if you are out here over working yourself with no nutrients or anything.” He said.
He was right, but I didn’t like it. I didn’t want to accept that. “She could be dead by morning Colt.” I said. He came to grab me, but I pushed him away from me.
“Freya honey come on let’s go home and get rest.” He said.
“No Colt, I need to do this! I have to save this girl.” I yelled at him.
He placed himself in front of me, “Freya! You cannot sit out here damn near killing yourself trying to commune with the goddess expecting to save her. No one has ever found or heard of a cure! There might not be one! She might not be able to be saved! But you can try again after you eat and rest! You need to stop making yourself crazy over this.” He said sternly, not yelling or anything like that just very bluntly.
I started crying. My emotions took hold of me and I let it out. This wasn’t just about her, this was about everything all at once. I never let myself process what happened to me I just moved on happy to be alive but I’ve been where she is, knowing she’s going to die and nothing can be done to help. I shouldn’t be alive with my children right now.
“I have to try to save her Colt, not just for her but for me too.” I said as I cried in his arms.
He held me, stroking my curly hair in his fingers, “I know Freya. Let’s try tomorrow, together.” He looked down at me, “Okay?” I looked up into his eyes. I know it’s all still a fresh wound for him too, so I know he understands. I nodded and went with him back to the pack house.
Tomorrow I will try again.
