Chapter 247
Autumn squeezed her eyes shut, a little nervous.
She was a divorced woman, after all.
And even though her marriage to Mars Wright had ended on a spectacularly ugly note, they’d still gone through all the motions back when they were dating.
At first, she was a little slow on the uptake and didn’t quite get what Owen was
implying.
But once it clicked, his sulking was so intense you could practically feel it radiating
off him.
He was acting this insecure just because she hadn’t shown any jealousy. Autumn felt like she was dating a teenager.
But then again, the fact that Owen was comfortable enough to show her this side of himself meant they were getting closer.
So, she decided she’d humor him.
“Does this prove I like you?”
Autumn pulled back from Owen, her cheeks flushed. It was the first time she’d ever done something like that.
Owen’s throat bobbed, his eyes thick with desire.
“Not enough.”
He whispered, his lips brushing against her ear as he enunciated each word. “Nowhere near enough.”
His words made her palms sweat.
Turns out, men really are naturals when it comes to certain things.

Chapter 247
Owen had acted like a total rookie before, but who would have thought he’d
become such an expert so fast?
He was even making her–the one with experience–all flustered and tongue–tied.
“Nope.”
Autumn playfully stroked his chin.
The gesture clearly pleased Owen, who pushed his luck by resting his chin on her shoulder, his eyes curving into a happy crescent.
“Your son says no.”
Autumn gently nudged him with her stomach.
Owen couldn’t help but let out a laugh.
He stroked her belly, which was growing rounder by the day, and his smile was incredibly tender.
“I really regret not meeting you sooner.”
Autumn hummed softly. “Then you would’ve been the other man.”
Owen gently pinched her ear. “For you, I would’ve.”
Autumn shot him a look.
She thought he was joking, but when she met his unusually serious gaze, she took a deep breath.
After a long moment, she said, “Nope.”
Owen froze.
He thought she was rejecting him, but then she continued, “If I’d met you sooner, Mars would’ve never even been in the picture! So you wouldn’t have had to be the other man.”

Chapter 247
A wave of relief washed over Owen, and he broke into a smile.
In that moment, he truly, deeply felt Autumn’s affection for him.
It was as if they had both finally acknowledged their own hearts. All the feelings they had suppressed and held back came rushing out like a broken dam,
completely unstoppable.
Autumn never expected to develop feelings for Owen so soon after her divorce.
But the more she thought about it, the more she realized the signs had been there all along.
How could anyone not fall for a man like Owen?
Especially since he had chosen her, so firmly and consistently, from the very beginning.
She had no reason to say no.
“Autumn, are you ready–whoa!”
Nina came bounding down the stairs, only to find her brother and soon–to–be sister–in–law wrapped in a tender, beautiful embrace.
She quickly covered her eyes, but her fingers were spread wide apart.
“Hey, don’t blame me for interrupting! It’s your own fault for being all lovey–dovey out in the open instead of in your room!”
Autumn instinctively tried to pull away, but Owen just held her tighter.
“The kid needs to leave,” Owen said, callously shooing Nina away.
Nina took the hint and didn’t stick around, scampering toward the front door.
“I’ll wait for you in the car, Autumn!”
“And I don’t wanna rush you, but we’re seriously gonna be late! Chop–chop!~”

Chapter 247
Mortified, Autumn buried her face in Owen’s chest.
“You’re unbelievable! You make it sound like we were about to do something. Nina totally got the wrong idea!”
Owen let her protest, his voice soft as he replied, “But we were doing something very intimate.”
“And you were the one who kissed me.”
“Autumn, I’m so happy.”
Autumn couldn’t take it anymore. Her ears felt like they were on fire, and she couldn’t stop herself from pinching Owen’s side. “Okay, that’s enough!”
When had Owen gotten so bold?
His words were making her too embarrassed to face anyone.
“Alright, I’ll stop.”
“Go have fun, and remember to call me if you need anything.”
He straightened her clothes, gave her belly one last gentle pat, and then finally let
her go.
A sudden reluctance to leave washed over Autumn.
It was strange. She’d never felt this way with Mars, not even when their relationship was at its best.
He had been good to her back then, but Autumn had been so focused on
growing their company, convinced that professional success was the only way to
strengthen their relationship.
She’d never really paid attention to these little details.
Only now did Autumn understand that dating really isn’t the same with everyone.

Chapter 247
With Mars, it was more like they were partners, a team pushing each other
forward.
But with Owen, it was real. This was what it felt like to truly be in a relationship.
His every move could fill her with joy.
And her every action could capture his entire attention.
“Okay, I’m heading out,” Autumn said, her finger lightly hooking his. “Don’t work too much, and make sure you get some rest.”
“I will.”
Owen’s eyes were sparkling. He walked her all the way to the door, where they finally, reluctantly, parted ways.
As Autumn settled into the car, she saw Owen still standing in the doorway, and a smile unconsciously bloomed on her lips.
Nina clicked her tongue twice. “Ugh, I shouldn’t be in the car. I should be in the
trunk.”
Autumn burst out laughing. “What on earth are you talking about?”
Nina grinned back. “I’m just so moved!”
“Seriously, Autumn, thank you. I can’t even imagine my brother growing old alone if it weren’t for you.”
“You’re like a fairy godmother, giving him the whole package in one go–a wife and a kid!”
“But don’t you worry. My brother’s the kind of guy who commits for life. You two are gonna be so happy together!”
Autumn smiled and nodded. “I hope so.”
Autumn refused to let one failed marriage make her stop believing in love.

Chapter 247
She would always have the courage to face whatever came next.
“Let’s go, we’re gonna be late to meet my old classmate. I told him a little about you, and he’s really interested in meeting you.”
“He even said if you’re up for it, you could intern at his company. A real internship, too–one that counts for credit and pays an actual salary.”
“Really?”
Nina was ecstatic. “AHHHH, AUTUMN, I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!”
“I’m seriously regretting this now! My brother should’ve waited his turn! I should have been the one to find my soulmate first! AHHH!”
Autumn played along. “Sorry, but it’s a hard pass from me. I’m into guys.”
Nina made a face of mock disgust. “What’s so great about those smelly boys, anyway? Stick with me, and I’ll make sure you live like a queen!”
Autumn roared with laughter.
The two of them chattered and laughed all the way to the restaurant.
Nina went to park the car, telling Autumn to head on up.
As Autumn passed by a private dining room, someone with sharp eyes spotted her and called out.
“Autumn Lopez?”
“You’ve got a lot of nerve showing your face here.”
