So, how much time am I looking at?
Owen couldn’t hide the fury on his face.
“I can’t believe Mars Wright treated you like that.”
Owen had only known that Autumn and Mars’s marriage fell apart because he had cheated.
He had assumed Mars just couldn’t resist temptation, that he’d strayed from his vows and turned into a scumbag serial cheater.
He never imagined that they hadn’t even been genuinely in love from the very beginning.
Owen’s eyes were fixed on Autumn as he couldn’t help but ask, “So why didn’t you divorce him
then?”
Autumn just smiled. “I was disappointed, sure, but I also thought maybe I was just overreacting. Divorce never even crossed my mind.”
“Besides, with our situation back then, I figured Mars didn’t want to go because he was worried about the cost. I actually felt a little sorry for him.”
Owen was speechless.
Autumn felt a little awkward under his gaze and looked away. “Honestly, it was mainly because I
was too busy.”
“Back then, our company was just getting off the ground, and the financial hole at the Lopez Group was getting deeper every year. I was stretched so thin I wished I could split myself in three. Who had the energy to think about a honeymoon?”
His heart ached as he gently stroked her hair.
“I will give you an unforgettable honeymoon.”
“We can go anywhere you want.”
Autumn threw herself into Owen’s arms.
“Thank you, Owen.”
It was no exaggeration to say that Owen was the one who had given her all her hopes and dreams about marriage and love.

So, how much time am looking at?
After learning of Mars’s betrayal, Autumn had thought she could never be interested in these things
again.
She never expected Owen to crash into her life with a force she couldn’t possibly resist.
In that moment, Autumn was truly grateful for the little life growing inside her.
This child was the bond between them, tying her and Owen together.
“What’s there to thank me for?”
Owen kissed Autumn’s forehead. “After everything we’ve been through, you’re still saying things like that? It’s like you don’t even consider me family.”
“That’s not it!”
Autumn quickly countered, “It’s *because* I see you as family that I have to thank you properly.”
“Owen, I’m serious. Without you, I can’t even imagine what would have become of me.”
Autumn was sure she wouldn’t have just fallen apart.
She would have propped up the Lopez Group to compete with Cloudbreak Corporation, and she would have found a way to acquire it and make that scumbag leave with nothing.
But after that, she would have faced a battle with her own family.
Oliver Lopez would have shown his true colors, dropping the act of a happy family.
The Lopez Group would have been torn apart by internal conflict.
After the failure of her marriage, being betrayed by her own family would have been too much to bear. She would have become a walking zombie.
Even if she had won in the end, she would have been all alone in the world.
That wasn’t the ending Autumn wanted.
Hearing this, Owen’s heart ached for her even more.
He had always known Autumn was a strong–willed person.
But he never realized she had been hiding so much inside.

“Why didn’t you tell me this before?”
If Owen had known earlier, he would have started preparing for all this long ago.
He never would have let Autumn bottle this up for so long.
Thank god he’d asked, or who knows when she would have finally opened up.
The thought of Autumn possibly waking up in the middle of the night, heartbroken over these unfulfilled dreams, was unbearable for him.
He had always wanted to make her happy; he couldn’t believe he’d almost missed such a huge blind
spot.
“It just never came up before.”
Autumn rubbed her nose awkwardly. “And everyone’s pretty busy. It didn’t seem necessary to bring it all up on purpose.”
In truth, before this, Autumn hadn’t even thought she and Owen would have a wedding.
After all, they already had a child on the way. Talking about all that now seemed like an afterthought.
And it would be a huge hassle.
Not everyone in the Bennett family accepted her; it was probably better to keep a low profile.
“Busy or not, some things just have to be done.”
Owen said, “To me, Owen Bennett, you, Autumn Lopez, are the woman I’m going to marry. You deserve the best of everything in the world.”
“In the eyes of the Bennett family, you’re doing something incredible for us by giving us an heir. Even if what you’re worried about happens, with us at the top keeping a lid on things, the people below can’t stir up any real trouble.”
“Autumn, you need to trust me, and you need to trust yourself.”
Autumn had heard words like these many times before, but never had they made her feel so
secure.
“Okay, I get it.”

“From now on, I’ll trust you completely. How about you make all the arrangements for us? I promise to follow your lead.”
Owen reached out and playfully pinched her nose. “So we have a deal? You can’t back out, right?”
“I won’t back out.”
Beaming as if he’d just received a royal decree, Owen said, “I’m gonna record this. If you ever go
back on your word, I’ll play it for you.”
Autumn didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
This guy was truly addicted to making recordings.
But thinking of it as a sign of his insecurity, she made a silent promise to herself to love him even
more from now on.
She was determined to make Owen a happy husband and a happy father.
Mars Wright had started to feel regret and fear the moment he’d done it.
But no matter how he replayed it, he couldn’t think of a more satisfying way to vent his anger than
violence.
That bitch Hannah, she’d gone too far!
Mars was already reeling from a blow to his physical well–being.
Then, a call from his company brought even more terribl
The officer’s face remained impassive as he listened to Mars Wright’s question. “That will depend on the final injury report,” he stated flatly.
“You can contact your lawyer now. Say whatever you have to say to them.”
Mars nodded quickly, instinctively reaching for his phone, only to realize all his electronics had been confiscated when he was brought in.
“1…”
This was nothing new to the officer. “We already tried to contact them for you, but everyone on your company’s legal team quit. There’s no one left to see you.”
“You have two options now.”
Mars felt a lump form in his throat, and his eyes started to burn.
“What options?”
“Contact your friends or family to find you a lawyer. You need to do this as soon as possible.”
“Or you can opt for legal aid.”
Even though Mars never managed his company’s affairs, he had some basic common sense.
A public defender wouldn’t fight for him with any real conviction.
After all, it was just a job for them, a basic duty.
If the case was winnable, they’d try. If not, they wouldn’t bother putting up a fight.
That wasn’t the outcome Mars wanted.
He was consumed by regret now. He didn’t want to go to prison… at least… not for too long.
He couldn’t even imagine how he’d fall apart if he had to spend the rest of his life behind bars.
“Can… can I call someone?”
At this critical moment, a single person came to mind.
He knew this was his last lifeline.

Chapter 313
If this person wouldn’t help him, he was truly done for.
“Can I call her right now?”
“You can.”
Phone in hand, Mars’s fingers trembled as he dialed Autumn Lopez’s number.
Honestly, he knew it was utterly shameless of him to call Autumn now.
But he was out of options.
If Autumn refused to help him, he might as well be dead.
Besides, he reasoned, even if she hated him now, they still had years of history together.
She couldn’t possibly just stand by and watch her ex–husband go to prison, could she?
Autumn was definitely not that cruel a person.
She was incredibly kind; otherwise, she never would have agreed to be with him in the first place.
The more he thought about it, the more determined he felt to contact her.
But his hands only trembled more violently.
Clearly, his body knew better than his mind that he was just lying to himself.
*Autumn, pick up… Please, just pick up the phone…*
*I swear I’ll repent. I’ll apologize properly, I’ll do anything, just please pick up and save me…*
Mars chanted the words over and over in his head.
As the phone rang–beep, beep, beep–his heart yo–yoed with anxiety.
Just as he was about to sink into despair, the call was answered.
In that instant, Mars felt like he had been reborn.
“Autumn, I-”
He started talking immediately, desperate to beg Autumn to save him.

“Hello, this is Owen Bennett.”
Owen Bennett?
How could it be Owen Bennett!
The emotional whiplash was too much. Mars felt a sharp cramp in his stomach, so painful that he couldn’t help but double over, curling into a ball like a shrimp.
“Hello? Who is this, please?”
Owen genuinely didn’t recognize the voice on the other end.
Mars hadn’t had a single drop of water since his arrest, and his voice was as raspy as a chain–smoker’s. Worried it might be an important call for Autumn, Owen asked politely.
“Mr. Bennett, I… It’s Mars Wright.”
A flush of shame crossed Mars’s face.
He had once tried to suck up to this man.
Then, when he learned Owen had stolen Autumn from him, he had hated this man with a burning
passion.
Even now, Mars still harbored intense resentment toward Owen.
He was jealous that Owen had been born with a silver spoon.
He was even more jealous that Owen now had Autumn.
