That Teleport Card is invalid. It’s grayed out. How could it even let you use it?said one of the players, frowning.

Yeah, that just doesn’t add up!another chimed in.

Max said there was a flash of white light when he used it. That’s definitely the effect, someone else recalled.

But if that’s true, why would he still bet with Leeanne, and put up such a huge stake?a player wondered aloud.

Maybe he thought Leeanne couldn’t prove it. After all, Teleport Cards are rare. Who knew she had more than one?another speculated.

Max stayed silent for a long time.

He stared at Leeanne’s Teleport Card, and something felt off to him now too. The Teleport Card he’d held before was nothing like this one.

Could I really have been wrong all along?Max wondered, doubt gnawing at him.

Max racked his brain, turning it over and over in his mind.

Back then, he and Robin had been hiding out in a cave. Robin, always the standup guy, insisted on shielding him, so all Max could see was Robin’s back and the cramped stone walls. There was no way to see what was happening outside

After Robin finished the deal with Leeanne, he handed the Teleport Card straight to Max. Robin immediately drew his weapon, ready to take on the wild wolves that had already found them.

Max didn’t even have time to check the card’s information. He used it straight away. There was a flash of white light, he felt a rush, and when he opened his eyes, he was still stuck in that cramped cave, staring at Robin’s back.

He got pissed right away, accusing Leeanne of scamming them.

Leeanne had snatched the Teleport Card, then forced Robin to cough up a mountain of supplies for a card that had already been used. She was downright devious. Just thinking about it made Max want to scream,

So, right away, he figured they’d been played.

Robin didn’t deny it, so Max started ranting in the chat, accusing Leeanne and exposing her dirty tricks

Just now, he’d agreed to the bet with Leeanne while still pissed off

But when he saw the Teleport Card Leeanne revealed, Max began to seriously doubt himself. The one he’d gotten looked nothing like this one.

Still, how was I supposed to make sense of what happened before? Max wondered his mind spinning

His thoughts were all over the place.

Leeanne didn’t give him a second to think Max, say something I’ve got the pot Are you realy to shut defeat?

Max stayed silent. If he’d really lost, he’d own up to it Hur did he really lose? this head just couldn’t handle all this complicated stuff.

Spike popped up again, as usual going after Robin. What a drama Everyone, take a look the invalid Teleport Card is sel obvious. So how come our wise and clever leader Robin didn’t catch it?

Ellery chimed in, Yeah, even a pig could’ve figured that out, right?

Spike sneered, So, either Robin was framing Leeanne, orhe’s worse than a pig or a dog!

Alina cheered, Well said!

Danelle added, Couldn’t have put it better myself!

Rodger chimed in, Couldn’t have said it better myself!

People started doubting Robin and Max, and before long, they were convinced the two of them had set Leeanne up on

purpose.

Thanks to the raft ratings fiasco, everyone was already on edge and looking for someone to blame.

So, the bored players on the raft started hurling insults, calling Max and Robin liars and using some seriously nasty language.

Max couldn’t stand being called names, but this time, he just had no way to fight back.

He kept wracking his brain, and suddenly a lightbulb went off. Wait, that’s it! After I used the Teleport Card, there was a flash of white light, and I was still in a cave, but the ceiling was higher, and the place felt bigger. I didn’t notice before, but, did we actually teleport from one cave to another?

As he thought back, it finally clicked. Yeah, that’s gotta be it! I slipped and looked down, and there was a puddle of water. I remember thinking it was weird. Before, the cave was bone dry, so how did a puddle just show up out of nowhere?

Max: [Yeah, that’s exactly what happened!]

Max: [No doubt about it!]

Max finally figured it out, and he’d just come up with the perfect justification for himself.

Robin was about to lose it.

He’d been spamming Max with private messages, but Max was so caught up in his own complicated reasoning that he dat even bother to check any of them.

And honestly, that was exactly what happened.

The Teleport Card actually worked. It just sent them from one cave to another that looked almost bentical Machin was annoyed at first, but once he noticed the scenery outside had totally changed, he realised the card waat useless. They just

had terrible luck.

They’d only teleported about two miles.

And guess what? There were still wolves outside!

Max was stuck behind Robin, so he couldn’t see what was happening outside the was too carries te motive the deads, and with Robin guiding Jim, he just assumed the Teleport Card was a dud and that Lee

He never expected Leeanne to have a stash of Teleport Cards, and he had no idea there was such a huge gap between an invalid card and one that had just been used once.

Back then, Max was so furious he snapped the invalid card in half and stomped it to bits, never even bothering to check it

out.

When Leeanne suddenly threw down the bet, Robin immediately felt something was off and tried to hold Max back, but Max was just too thickheaded. He insisted on going through with it anyway.

Watching the players rip into him with their insults, Robin was grinding his teeth so hard he thought he might crack a molar.

He let out a sigh. At least, no matter what, he always kept an escape route handy.

Robin spoke up in the chat, Max, is that how it went down? I was so tense back then, I barely noticed anything

Max answered, Yeah, that’s it. I was kinda puzzled for a second, but honestly, I didn’t really pay attention.

Leeanne shot back, Oh, really? Isn’t that just a little too much of a coincidence?

Spike jumped in, Yeah, come on, that’s way too convenient. You guys aren’t just making this up, right?

Ellery scoffed, Funny how you two couldn’t remember a thing until someone called you out. Now that you’ve been exposed, suddenly you’ve got a brand new story? Wow, impressive!

Spike added, Seriously, what are the odds? You teleport somewhere else and the cave is a perfect copy inside, and the view outside is exactly the same too? Who’s actually gonna believe that?

Ellery chimed in, Max could only see the inside, and maybe Robin saw outside. Are you really expecting us to believe it was all identical?

Robin clenched his jaw, forcing himself to keep explaining, Yeah, it was just one of those freak things. Maybe there were a few differences, but honestly, we were so panicked, we missed it completely.

He sighed, I kept insisting the Teleport Card really did its job. There were just some things we didn’t understand at the cune Glad we finally figured it out.”

Leeanne shot back, Do you actually believe your own excuse? Are you treating us all like fools?

Spike jumped in, Yeah, Robin, are you seriously treating everyone in District 33 like we’re idiots?

Everyone else jumped in, voices rising in outrage. Nobody wanted to be called a fool

Max’s explanation might pass, but Robin’s? No one was buying it

Once the cursing finally died down, Leeanne hollered at Max. Hey Max. you lost, so where’s my 2000 wound ist nach

Max hemmed and hawed for ages before mumbling. Hold on

Leeanne snorted, Alright, go ask your boss Robm it he’ll actually let you cough it up?

Robin could barely process what was happening

He felt dizzy, like he could cough up blood from sheer frustration

He thought, Leeanne’s so damn sly. Now Max can’t even dodge the debt Everyone knows Max and I am always futting the

Max could get away with it, but I can’t. And if I did, all the reputation I’ve worked so hard to build in District 34 would go straight down the drain.

Max had already sent him a private message: [Boss, what now? Did I screw up?]

Robin barely kept himself from exploding and replied, It’s fine. We accused Leeanne for nothing, so we lost the bet. Just pr her what we promised.”

Robin was so frustrated he couldn’t even get the words out.

What else could I do? I’ve always been the guy who’s loyal, reliable, honest, and generous. Guess I brought this on myself b building up that perfect good guy persona,he thought.

Max was hesitant. But it took us forever to gather all that wood and nails. Boss, you were just about to upgrade the raft. weren’t you?

Robin sighed, We have to keep our word, Max. Go ahead and hand it over. I’ll send it to you.

Why did I always have to play the nice guy?Robin thought, feeling totally fed up.

Why can’t I just be the villain for once? It’s exhausting being the nice guy!he grumbled to himself.
