Chapter 17
Leeanne grabbed her underwear, loungewear, and shower essentials, then stepped into the shower pod.
As she sank into the warm bathtub, she let out a sigh. This is the life, she thought.

Back when she was caught up in the rat race, she never had time for a proper bath–just quick showers to get by.
The water stayed at a perfect temperature no matter how long she soaked, and she could even turn on the massage jets for pure bliss.
After a full hour, Leeanne finally dried her hair, slipped into fresh clothes, and dove onto the soft bed. She snuggled up with a fluffy pillow and did a happy roll, feeling like she was in heaven.
With the sound of the ocean breeze lulling her to sleep, Leeanne thought to herself, ‘Was this a vacation or what?‘
She slept like a log, and when she woke up, the sun was already high in the sky.
Just then, William sent her a message.
He sent her 20 pieces of plastic, 1 rope, 5 pieces of glass with a note: [Lucky morning. Scored these while fishing around.]
True to his word, William always sent over everything he fished up, except for the wood and nails he needed for his own use.
Leeanne nodded to herself. ‘He’s someone who knows how to show gratitude, she thought.
Of course, she’d make sure to treat William right. After thinking it over, she took everything he offered.
Since Leeanne didn’t need the plastic or rope herself, and those were just what you needed to make a small fishing net, she quickly crafted one and sent it over to William.
She kept the glass for herself, thinking, Who knows? This might be useful later.
After brushing her teeth and washing up, Leeanne grabbed a couple of bread roll, took a sip of water, and dashed straight into the mystical cherry grove.
[Today’s blessing from the mystical cherry grove: Gatherer’s Luck (When gathering fruit, chopping trees, or mining minerals, you might score a critical hit and get random bonus rewards!)]
Leeanne’s eyes lit up. “This luck looks even better,‘ she thought.
She was just about to head out to gather supplies, so this was the perfect chance to see what Gatherer’s Luck could really do.
She couldn’t wait to get started
She grabbed her backpack, stuffed it with essentials, and got ready to set off for the island adventure!
Leeanne tossed her iron axe, iron shovel, iron pickaxe, some water, and food into her backpack–each one taking up a slot.
five in total.
Once she got to the island, Leeanne grabbed the empty chest she’d left there yesterday, then climbed up the hill to the
nearest hemlock tree.
She pulled out her iron axe and started chopping at the tree..
Thud! The axe just made a tiny dent in the trunk.

Leeanne took a deep breath and went all out, hacking at the tree dozens of times until her palm was buzzing with numbness. After all that, she only managed to carve out a small notch.
She was about to cry from frustration.
The axe is plenty sharp, so why is it so damn hard to cut down a tree?‘ she muttered to herself.
She paused to catch her breath, took a swig of water, and got right back to it. After more than half an hour of relentless chopping, the tree finally toppled with a thunderous crash.
With a dramatic swoosh, all the wood was magically stored away in her backpack.
[Chopped down 1 hemlock tree. Gatherer’s Luck triggered! Critical hit x10-100 wood collected! Auto–stored in backpack.]
‘No way, that’s insane!‘ Leeanne couldn’t believe her luck.
Her eyes filled with happy tears. ‘100 wood! A 10x crit, like I just chopped down 10 trees at once. That’s enough to add 100 square feet to my raft. Totally worth all that effort!‘
Looked like chopping down one tree usually would net one 10 wood.
Honestly, even if a single tree only gave you 10 wood, that was still way better than breaking down chests.
Leeanne was pumped, barely noticing the ache in her hands as she rushed off to tackle the next tree.
After another half hour of hard chopping, this tree finally crashed to the ground.
[Chopped down 1 hemlock tree. Gatherer’s Luck triggered! Critical hit x2-20 wood collected! Auto–stored in backpack.]
She scored a double bonus, just as she thought would happen.
After chopping down two trees, Leeanne felt like she was on the verge of collapse.
‘My hands are aching like crazy, and my arms feel dead!‘ Leeanne grumbled to herself.
Rodger kept messaging her, always asking how she was holding up.
Leeanne held up her iron axe for Rodger to see. “This iron axe is really tough to use. It takes me more than half an hour just to chop down one tree…”
Rodger was silent for a bit, then replied, “Honestly, there’s nothing wrong with the axe. If it were me, I could probably chop down a tree in about 10 minutes.”
Leeanne could only stare in disbelief.
‘Alright, so I’m the weak link here. Looks like I’ll have to find a way to boost my strength, she thought
Leeanne had some serious grit. She clenched her jaw and powered through, and by the time the clock hit one in the afternoon, she’d chopped down several more trees–racking up a massive haul of 500 wood
But she was totally wiped out. She collapsed onto the ground and took a break for over half an hour, ate some bread roll she’d packed, and washed it down with some water.
While she was eating and drinking, she pulled up the chat window and saw that the players were all cursing up a storm
Rodger kept messaging, sounding pretty down [Man, my luck’s totally tanked today I’ve only managed to snag two chests so

Leeanne glanced at the chat window and saw that luck was definitely in the air today. Some players were fishing up wood and nails, others were getting their hands on food and drinks, and someone even scored a big winter coat from a chest.
There were even folks who found blankets. Anyway, people were picking up all kinds of loot today.
It suddenly struck Leeanne. Today at dawn, the newbie protection period had ended. She had no clue what might happen
next.
Looking at all the loot players were getting, Leeanne figured it was probably the game’s way of prepping everyone for the end of the newbie period.
She needed to hurry up and expand her raft to 1000 square feet. Wood wasn’t a problem, but she was seriously short on nails.
Rodger: [Ugh, my luck sucks today. I’m just stuck here on my raft, staring at the ocean like some lonely old man. I’m so bored. Man. I wish I could get off this raft and explore the island like you.]
Leeanne suddenly got an idea. [Hey Rodger, can you do me a favor? Could you try trading water, bread roll, or fresh fish for some nails? When I get back tonight, I’ll pay you back with supplies, and I’ll give you a small fishing net as a bonus. Sound good?]
Rodger perked up. [A small fishing net? Is that how you got the cod?]
Leeanne: [Yep!]
Rodger was pumped. [OK, you got it!]
After giving Rodger his instructions, Leeanne got to her feet.
She wasn’t about to chop any more trees today; she was totally wiped out.
She was still short a little over 100 wood, but figured she could just grab some later tonight when she got back.
Besides, she didn’t want to waste all her Gatherer’s Luck just on wood; there were lots of other resources she could collect today.
Thanking back to yesterday, Leeanne headed over to the spot where she’d found those coal chunks and began poking around the area, hoping to find something interesting.
