[With Gatherer’s Luck blessing you today, you’ve obtained 10 chickens and 100 feathers. They’ve been added to your backpack.]

Leeanne opened her backpack and saw that 10 chickens had appeared in one slot, and 100 feathers had filled another.

Ten times the reward!she thought, her heart racing. Jackpot! With all these dressed chickens, I could eat for ages!

Her backpack was almost full now. It held an iron axe, an iron shovel, an iron pickaxe, a wooden box, a bottle of mineral water, 500 pieces of wood, 16 wild eggs, 10 chickens, and 100 feathers. There was only one empty slot left.

Leeanne figured she’d have to head back soon to clear out her backpack.

Ten slots just weren’t enough.

she kept searching the area with her spear, but after looking around forever, she still hadn’t found the coal mine.

I was already past two in the afternoon, and she really couldn’t keep wasting time like this.

Jp ahead was a dirt slope, twice as tall as a person. Leeanne leaned on her spear for support and clambered up with effort.

On the slope, green vines twisted and curled, and hanging from one of them was a giant watermelon.

Is that a watermelon?Leeanne wondered, her eyes lighting up. No doubt about it. That’s a watermelon.

The watermelon was huge and heavy. Leeanne checked it over and saw the stem was wilted, looking totally ripe.

Watermelon found! Want to harvest it?]

Yes!Leeanne answered right away.

Thanks to Gatherer’s Luck, you scored 3 watermelons. They’ve been stashed in your backpack.]

Leeanne checked her backpack and found 3 watermelons tucked into the last slot.

Awesome! Not only can I eat them, but I can even start my own watermelon patch!she thought, grinning

Bummer, all ten slots were packed. Time to head back and unload.

What a haul today! she thought, her heart soaring.

Heading back, she’d get to feast on roasted chicken, boiled eggs, and sweet, juicy watermelon

Couldn’t be happier! she thought, practically skipping with joy

Leeanne felt her fatigue melt away and headed back along the same path she’d come

Time was running out, and she was determined to cover as much ground on the island as possible today

She got back to the raft, unloaded everything she could, and then dashed right back out. By now, she wasn’t really in the mood to hunt for the coal mine anymore, and chopping trees was the last thing on her mind.

Isn’t exploring the island way more exciting? Who knows what kind of new loot I might find, she thought. Score! Eggs, wild chickens, and watermelons. What more could I ask for?

When she returned, she wasn’t in any rush to find the coal mine. Instead, she just wandered around, hoping to stumble upon something new.

Up ahead, Leeanne spotted a dark cave. She paused, feeling a bit uneasy. I wasn’t great at fighting. Should I risk it?

[Survival Tip: Small coal mine detected. Usually has treasure chests, but watch outthere’s danger inside!]

A coal mine?Leeanne thought, her heart skipping a beat.

I’ve been searching high and low for this thing, and now it just shows up when I least expect it. Should I risk it or not?

Leeanne didn’t hesitate for a second.

Of course I’m going in.

Sure, there’s danger, but there are treasure chests in there too.

Besides, it’s still the newbie protection period. The game’s not gonna be that cruel to a newbie, right?she reassured herself.

The inside was pitch black. She’d need a simple torch.

Leeanne had already planned for this. She’d told Rodger earlier that if she found a mine, she’d want a simple torch from himbasically, a burning piece of chopped firewood.

Ever since Rodger got that simple torch yesterday, he’d kept a fire source on his raft. After all, he could always chop more firewood by hand if needed.

Leeanne sent Rodger a private message. Rodger, send me a simple torch.”

Rodger was bored out of his mind, so as soon as he saw her message, he sent over a burning piece of chopped firewood.

Leeanne: Thanks! I’ll treat you to some watermelon when I get back.

Rodger’s voice trembled with excitement. Watermelon? You actually found some? Man, that’s incredible!

With a simple torch in one hand and her spear in the other, Leeanne made her way into the mine, moving slow and steady.

The place was dark and damp, barely five feet wide and maybe six feet high. The walls were all rough stone and packed earth, streaked with moisture.

Every so often, a couple of bugs would wriggle out from the ground. Leeanne dodged them carefully.

After walking about thirty feet, she suddenly heard a few highpitched chitteringnoises. Then, with a swift whoosh,a small black shadow darted past her.

What the heck was that?Leeanne thought, startled.

She got even more cautious, keeping her eyes peeled as she moved forward.

[Coal mine found! Ready to gather?]

At her feet, Leeanne spotted a dark coal chunk tucked away in a corner.

She gritted her teeth, fighting through the pain, and jabbed her spear at it with all her strength.

With a long, shrill screech, the silverback rat scampered off, trailing a few drops of blood behind it.

She got hurt, but at least that rat was bleeding too.

Leeanne was wearing the sportswear she’d scored yesterday. She quickly rolled up her pant leg and spotted two sharp bite marks on her ankle. Blood was already trickling out.

Wincing in pain, she checked the wound and found no sign of it turning black. Only then did she breathe a sigh of relief.

At least it’s not venomous. What a relief,’ she thought.

No way I can take this rat headon. First, I’m just not strong enough. Second, I don’t have anything to treat infections or patch myself up, so I really can’t afford to get hurt.

If I’m right, that silverback rat boss is probably going to camp that chest forever.

No need to force it right now,Leeanne decided, and without a second thought, she headed straight out of the mine.

She could wait, but after that rat bit her, Leeanne was definitely going to make it pay.

Little rat, you better watch your back,’ Leeanne thought, a cold grin spreading across her face.
