The Double Drop Buff Surviving The Endless Ocean novel Chapter 285

Leeanne, Gideon, and Emmett waited for about half an hour. During that time, all three of them had their transformations wear off. But as long as they blew their transformation whistles right away, they could turn back instantly.

It was kind of annoying, honestly.

There was a countdown showing how much time was left on their mermaid buff, so they had to keep an eye on it and blow the whistle the moment it expired.

Blowing the whistle while the buff was still active wouldn’t do anything.

That was risky, too. They had to slip away from the crowd right before their transformation ended, then blow the whistle fast.

Luckily, the whistle was pretty quiet. Otherwise, it would’ve been a real headache.

Once they transformed into mermaids, the three of them moved through the water like naturals, totally at ease. Emmett was especially lively, darting around and saying he wanted to mingle with the other mermaids. He vanished from sight in no time.

Gideon, meanwhile, just kicked back by some coral to rest.

Leeanne, feeling bored, asked Gideon to keep watch here and give her a headsup if the Mermaid Queen showed up. Then she slipped beneath the surface.

The little fish swam freely all around, chatting away. Leeanne caught snippets of their conversations, and soon she spotted a type that was especially gossipybombfish.

These little guys were black and white, shaped like tiny bombs, with light blue tails and white mouths. They loved to gather in twos or threes, squeezing into caves or under rocks to gossip.

Not just chattingthey were fullon gossiping.

Leeanne leaned against a rock, listening to their endless gossip.

Since they lived on the edge of the Mermaid Palace, they had loads of gossip about the mermaids, like which mermaids were dating, who was caught up in complicated relationships, whose kid was a little dimwitted, and who was sneaking around behind their partner’s back.

Some mermaids even stole dried seaweed, which meant there was drama every few days.

Seriously, these fish had the scoop on everything.

Leeanne was getting sleepy from all the endless gossip, but suddenly she caught something actually useful.

Mila’s dead. Poor little princessone fish lamented.

How could Mila be an evil mermaid? She was adorable!another fish argued.

Adorable? Come on, she was such a handful! Remember that cave she always squeezed into? Whenever she got mad, she’d vanish in there and nobody could find her!a third fish added.

How would we know?one fish shot back.

Ha! That’s because you don’t even know where that cave is,another fish scoffed.

You’re bluffing!someone else retorted.

The little fish started bickering, looking like they were about to start a fight. Leeanne’s head was pounding from all the noise, so she tuned them out and swam off.

She hadn’t gone far when she spotted the fish that knew where the cave was. It was storming off, grumbling to itself, Idiots, none of you have a clue where that cave is. Only Mila and I know!

Leeanne grew curious and decided to follow the fish, winding through several turns and weaving past some coral until they arrived at a large boulder.

The rock was covered in thick Mila. The little fish darted in, parting the Mila as it slipped inside.

Leeanne blinked, and the fish had vanished.

Leeanne waited for a bit, and when the fish didn’t come back out, she parted the Mila and wriggled her way inside. After squeezing through for a few meters, she ended up in a cave.

To her surprise, there was a luminous pearl tucked away deep in the cave.

The cave was pretty smalljust enough space for a skinny mermaid to fit, maybe five or six square meters. The walls were all solid rock, and the entrance she’d just come through was the only way in or out.

Oh, so this is the cave Mila always snuck off to?Leeanne wondered.

No wonder no one else could ever find this place.

The little fish slipped back out, and Leeanne, bored, decided to leave as well.

Getting through that dense seaweed was a pain; it nearly suffocated her.

Just as Leeanne surfaced, Gideon pinged her: [The Queen’s back, and she brought the prince with her.]

Leeanne was taken aback. Wait, what?

It’s barely afternoon, and she’s already found the prince and brought him back?Leeanne thought. ‘If she could track down her runaway son this quickly, why didn’t she bother before?

She rushed back and caught sight of Rosalind and Elvis’s backs as she arrived.

Both of them were moving quickly, and their faces looked grim.

Leeanne and Gideon hurried after them inside, and Leeanne pinged Emmett to let him know.

When dinner time rolled around, Leeanne stashed Snowy back in her Pet Pouch and headed to the little square to meet up with Gideon and Emmett.

She stationed Little Blue outside Mila’s bedroom.

Outside Mila’s room, there was a plant with blue and red leaves. Little Blue’s tiny body blended right in, making it almost impossible for anyone to spot.

Leeanne needed to keep watch over Mila’s room, just in case anything suspicious happened.

Leeanne hurried over to the little square.

The three of them met up again in the square.

Emmett had spent the afternoon chatting with a few mermaids and ended up with two new bros.

Unfortunately, he didn’t pick up any new info.

Gideon kept quiet the whole time, so of course he didn’t learn anything.
