Chapter 284
Leeanne gave him a thumbs–up. “Nice work. Spill it!”

Emmett was a total social butterfly. Even though he was short, stocky, and kind of ugly, he still managed to get loads of info from the gorgeous mermaid. Never underestimate his charm.
Emmett said, “First, evil mermaids are a total taboo in the Mermaid Palace. They’re taught from childhood to despise evil mermaids and take them out whenever they see one. Otherwise, their whole kind could get wiped out. That idea is drilled into them.”
Leeanne nodded. Mila had already told her that.
Emmett went on, “Second, the Queen took Mila’s body to her old bedroom. Word is, she’s planning to freeze it in ice water.”
Leeanne’s face darkened. “I’m going to check it out.”
Emmett said, “I’ll go with you.”
Leeanne shook her head. “No, you stay here and keep digging for info. I’ll handle this myself There are too many people. We’d stand out..”
After Gideon and Emmett left, Leeanne headed straight for the Queen’s quarters.
She’d already gotten the scoop from Mila earlier, so she had a pretty good idea of how the Mermaid Palace was laid out.
Before long, she reached the backmost palace, the rear hall where the Queen, prince, and princess usually rested.
Since the outer perimeter of the Mermaid Palace was so well–guarded that no one could get in or out, the security inside was pretty lax.
These players were the odd ones who’d just arrived, brought in by the teleportation conch. The Queen never imagined that after she’d seriously injured the players, any of them would still stick around.
So, there were just two mermaid guards napping at the entrance.
Leeanne didn’t bother going inside. She took a detour around the back, slipped past the right side of the building, and found a clear pond behind the wall. After crossing the pond, she settled into a pavilion at a comfortable distance from Mila’s bedroom.
That building was Mila’s room. If her guess was right, the Queen and Mila were both inside.
She quietly released Little Blue and Snowy.
The Mermaid Palace had some dry spots, but there were ponds everywhere–even on the upper floors. That way, Little Blue and Snowy could move around, as long as they watched out and didn’t fall into the

Little Blue transformed into a tiny bird, even smaller than a sparrow, and could stay that way for a long time
Leeanne sent it flying around to see if it could pick up any useful info.
Snowy stayed close, with Leeanne shielding it with her tail, so it could listen in on whatever was happening inside the room.
Snowy had a special skill–super hearing
It was so small, just a little fluff when it lay down. It listened closely and repeated everything it picked up.
Snowy said. “The Queen’s talking just rambling Sounds like she’s regretting something. Let me listen in?”
Snowy copied the Queen’s voice in a soft, high–pitched tone
The Queen said, “Mila, Mila, wake up… I won’t scold you anymore, I promise. Please, wake up…”
The Queen said, “Mila, you’re my precious little girl. Please wake up. I was wrong, I wasn’t ashamed of you. I’l help you. I’ll bring you back to how you were.”
The Queen said, ‘Mila, you’re not really gone, are you? Please, wake up. I just want to hold you in her arms…”
The Queen was crying her heart out, just wouldn’t stop talking, her voice thick with grief
She went on for a good half hour, crying and talking nonstop, and by the end, Leeanne’s tail was practically asleep from sitting so long
Finally, the Queen managed to pull herself together ‘Mila, are you really gone? Evil mermaids who awaken have all kinds of survival tricks. How could you end up dead?”
After a moment, she let out a heavy sigh. “Mila, just wait for me. I’ll find your brother and bring him back.”
And then, it was silent
Snowy whispered, “The Queen’s gone.”
Leeanne wiggled her numb tail and recalled Snowy to her pet inventory.
Just as she stepped out, Little Blue flew back, chirping. “The Queen’s out! I saw her leave the palace”
Leeanne nodded. “She’s going to look for the prince.”

Is it really that easy to find the runaway prince just by heading out? If it was so simple, why didn’t the Queen try searching for him before? Leeanne thought

[Hey, why does Leeanne always get off scot–free? Luminara didn’t blacklist her, and even the Queen never messed with her.]
[Did she skip collecting Lunara Blossoms or something?]
[Nah, I saw her grab one or two, tops. She even told everyone not to go overboard–just take what you need and leave the rest.]
[Ha, Bailey was giving Leeanne a hard time back then. Bet she’s kicking herself now.]
[See? Following Leeanne was the smart move!]
The players kept chatting. Some were gloating, and the quest–takers really got totally shafted this time, except Leeanne.
Enrique was secretly relieved he’d listened to Leeanne. If he hadn’t, he’d be getting hunted down right now. Sure, he was on Luminara’s blacklist, but he wasn’t too worried. He figured he could still count on Vanessa and Felipe.
Rodger and Danelle felt the same way.
They all dropped Leeanne a DM to thank her.
But as the quest–takers started to piece things together, the realization hit them. They’d totally been played by
the Queen.
