One vine climbed the raft’s fence, stretching over 30 feet. Another crept up the window frame onto the roof ridge.

Another vine slid through the cabin, across the doorframe of the wooden pleasure boat.

The sea demon vines took over the fence and wooden pleasure boat in under a minute.

Its oval green leaves grew in lush clusters.

Leeanne smiled at the green sea.

‘It’s gorgeous! So easy on the eyes,‘ she thought.

The sea demon vine grew clusters of tiny buds that soon bloomed into vibrant flowers of every color.

Though tiny, each flower had a dozen petals with yellow stamens at the center.

A sweet floral scent filled the air.

‘It’s even more beautiful,’ she thought, eyes wide with wonder.

Leeanne’s eyes struggled to keep up.

Her raft was now a garden full of blooms.

So many colors felt overwhelming.

Her eyes ached from the vibrant hues.

Leeanne frowned. ‘What kind of plant is this? The flowers have so many colors. I’ve never seen anything like it!

“Do you like it?” a childish voice piped up.

“Who’s there?” Leeanne jumped.

“It’s me, Viney! Leeanne, am I pretty?” A green vine with tiny flowers crept up Leeanne’s wrist and arm.

“You’re the sea demon vine?” Leeanne blurted.

“Yep, that’s me, Viney! Leeanne, thanks for the nutrient solution; I’ve grown!” The sea demon vine cheered, a green tendril from Leeanne’s arm waving playfully.

“Oh, how old are you?”

The sea demon vine chirped, I’m three years old!”

Leeanne said, “You’re definitely big enough!”

“That nutrient bottle wasn’t enough to mature the sea demon vine, Leeanne thought.

‘Only three years old, that’s still a baby!”

Seeing the small sea demon vine, Leeanne didn’t want to upset it. After a moment, she asked, “How are your flowers so

beautiful?”

Viney giggled, “Yeah, pretty! I can bloom flowers in any color. Watch, red.”

Leeanne stared as the multicolored flowers turned vivid red.

The sea demon vine chirped, “Watch, green, yellow, purple, pink, blue…”

She quickly shifted through seven or eight colors.

Leeanne watched her raft change colors like a kaleidoscope. Dazzled, she said, “Stop! Viney, you’re incredible!”

The vine giggled, “Of course, Hehe, I’m the coolest plant!”

Leeanne nodded, “Yeah!”

She paused, then said, “Viney, can you change your flowers to purple and pink? Those colors suit a princess like you.”

Viney looked puzzled. “Really? I’ll try!”

With a flash, the flowers on the sea demon vine’s tendrils instantly turned purple and pink.

Leeanne admired the purple and pink blooms.

Viney squealed, “Wow, it’s beautiful! I love it!”

Leeanne let out a sigh of relief.

She wasn’t used to kids. Her brother’s nearly five–year–old son was a troublemaker, but she didn’t have to tiptoe around him.

Handling three–year–old Viney was a real challenge for her.

Seeing it was late, Leeanne decided to check the island.

She took her spear, dagger, iron axe, iron pickaxe, iron shovel, and water, then left.

Once on the island, Leeanne revisited old spots, then explored a new area.

She’d explored most of the island, leaving only the northeast corner. At the top, she saw a few trees.

She paused and crouched for a closer look.

“Wait, are these sweet potato leaves?” Leeanne wondered.

Leeanne sifted through the vines, picked a leaf, and sniffed it. “These are sweet potato leaves, she thought.

Her grandparents grew sweet potatoes, and every fall she helped harvest them.
