Leeanne took one last long look at the bison, burning its exact spot into her memory before she forced herself to turn away.
She couldn’t take it down yet, and there were still hours of daylight left. Better to finish scouting the rest of the island first and make sure she didn’t miss anything valuable.
With just one day left in the trial, the absolute worst outcome would be missing out on both the bison and whatever else this place had tucked away.
She wandered through every corner of the island until she spotted a wooden chest half–buried under the massive, sprawling roots of an old oak.
No lock on it, which usually meant no nasty surprises, but Leeanne had learned not to trust “usually.” She edged closer, scooped up a solid rock, and lobbed it hard at the lid.
With a loud bang, a snake burst out like it was spring–loaded. Leeanne didn’t even think; she yanked her fine iron axe off her belt and hurled it in one clean motion.
The blade bit deep, slicing the snake into two twitching halves.
She stood there a second, staring. ‘Holy hell, this axe is no joke!
She had actually been wondering if it would be enough for the bison, so this little stunt doubled as the perfect test. It passed with flying colors.
Time to start rethinking my entire approach,’ Leeanne thought.
She sauntered over, flipped the chest open, and the notifications lit up.
[You have obtained a box of milk, I healing salve blueprint, and a set of camouflage outfit (purple).]
She waited a couple seconds for the usual golden glow, but nothing happened. No luck boost this time.
She shrugged, shoved everything into her backpack, and immediately felt it hit its limit again. A low groan escaped her lips.
For reasons that made zero sense, warehouse chests could be upgraded with spatial stones, but her personal backpack was stuck forever at ten pathetic slots. Ten. It was driving her nuts.
She had no real choice but to head back and clear some space, or she’d be out of room when the bison finally dropped its loot.
At least only one small hill was left unchecked. She jogged up, chopped down the handful of rare purple hardwood trees clustered on top, and started the trek back to the rafi.
It wasn’t even two in the afternoon yet. The round trip would eat up maybe forty minutes, leaving her plenty of time to come up with a proper game plan.
She chewed on the bison problem the entire way back and still hadn’t landed on anything solid by the time she stepped
onto the raft.
Then she froze.
Four pristine, unopened wooden chests sat in a neat row along the edge.
Leeanne whipped her head left, right, behind her. These absolutely had not been there when she left.

Chapter 30
“What the hell,‘ she muttered under her breath.
EX 55 Vouchera
A bright, bubbly kid voice rang out. “Hey, you’re back! I scooped up those chests for ya. You want them or what?” Leeanne spun around. The sea vine demon’s tendrils was waving at her like an overexcited golden retriever.
“You scooped them up?” she asked, eyes wide.
“Yup, yup! Check this out!” A vine whipped out over the water, stretched a good forty feet, snagged a drifting chest like it was nothing, and flicked it onto the raft with a casual snap.
It landed perfectly beside the others.
“Pretty sweet, huh?” The vine did a little victory wiggle.
Leeanne’s whole face lit up. “Sweet? Kid, you’re an absolute legend. I’m serious, you’re the MVP.”
She had been quietly kicking herself all morning. The announcement had hyped today’s supply drop as extra juicy, but she’d been stuck on the island and missed the whole chest–grab fest.
No one would’ve guessed her little sea vine demon could handle the job. And with way better reach than she ever had.
She honestly wanted to scoop the plant up and squeeze it.
The vine practically vibrated with pride. “I can snag fish too, but they’re all slimy and gross and they stink. I don’t want that junk all over my tendrils.”
Leeanne burst out laughing. “Forget fish, buddy. You just keep reeling in chests. That’s more than enough for me.”
She wasn’t exactly starving for food. And the vine was basically a toddler, three years old with that adorable, soft little voice.
No way was she turning a sweet kid into a full–time fisherman.
The vine squirmed happily. “Aww, you’re the best ever. When I grow up bigger I’m gonna reach crazy far, you’ll see!”
Leeanne grinned to herself. ‘Bet its range and abilities will scale up too!
Honestly, she was already over the moon with it. Built–in chest magnet, constant lookout, living décor, the sea vine was straight–up perfect.
It kept chattering away, clearly soaking up the attention.
Leeanne let it ramble for a few minutes before gently winding things down. She still had a bison to deal with.
Just as she turned to head below deck, a system screen slammed into view with blazing red text.

District chat lost its collective mind.
