Moo!Bison One lowered its head and charged, slamming hard into Bison Two, the potato thief.

Bison Two still had half the potato dangling from its mouth. It staggered from the impact, roared back, and charged in

return.

Just like that, the two were locked in a fullblown brawl.

Leeanne watched, stunned, as they tore into each other.

Hooves pounded the dirt, horns flashed coldly as they clashed, and within minutes both were bleeding. One even lost a chunk of its horn.

And after all that chaos, neither had stepped in the trap.

Leeanne started to panic. Those horns are perfect. If they get wrecked, this whole hunt’s for nothing!

She pulled out her fine iron axe, still coated with locoweed sap, took careful aim, and hurled it with everything she had.

It sliced through the air with a sharp whoosh.

It grazed Bison Two’s neck, carving an eightinch gash about half an inch deep. Blood sprayed, flesh curled back.

The wound was about half an inch deep, the flesh torn open, and blood spurted out.

Bison Two bellowed in agony, jerked its head up, spotted Leeanne in the tree, and abandoned its fight completely.

It charged straight at her, blood streaming behind it.

Leeanne froze for a split second. Holy crap, did I really just do that?

Bison hide was supposed to be insanely tough.

Was it the axe? My boosted strength? Probably both, Leeanne thought.

No time to wonder. Bison Two reached the tree, leaped, and rammed the trunk with a thunderous boom.

The whole tree shuddered violently, nearly throwing Leeanne off.

She gripped tighter.

Boom after boom after boom. The bison went completely berserk, slamming the trunk again and again.

In one minute it hit seven or eight times, and Leeanne felt like she was about to puke.

Across the clearing, Bison One glanced over, weighed the entertainment value against the smaller sweet potato still sitting on the ground, and decided food won out. It took a few steps toward the prize.

Then it dropped straight into the trap with a heavy thud.

Leeanne’s heart raced. Finally, one down for good!

Just then, the tree she was perched in lurched hard, almost throwing her clear off the branch

A stubborn spark ignited inside her. It is only one bison. My agility and strength have climbed way past what most guys could boast. Why not go toetotoe?

she didn’t hesitate. She grabbed the spear coated thick with locoweed, lined up the charging beast, and thrust with verything she had.

The impact slammed through her arms like a wrecking ball. With a wet crunch, the spear buried deep into Bison Two’s neck.

The sheer force tore at her palms and flung her right out of the tree.

he hit the ground hard but rolled instinctively, bleeding off most of the shock before jumping back to her feet.

The bison had already wheeled around, bellowing with raw fury as it charged again, eyes blazing red and the spear still utting from its throat.

Damn, this thing just won’t quit,’ Leeanne thought. That was two full doses of locoweed!

Leeanne turned and sprinted. Both weapons were gone, so running was her only move.

Luckily, the agility boost was no joke; she flew toward a dense cluster of trees and started weaving tight circles around them.

Lost in blind rage, Bison Two roared endlessly and crashed forward in straight lines, slamming into one trunk after another.

Each collision shook the trees violently, sending cascades of leaves raining down.

Her pulse pounded in her ears, but she forced herself to stay focused.

he broke away from the trees and bolted straight for the pit, the bison thundering right on her heels.

As she neared the edge, she launched into a desperate leap, clearing the hole and landing solidly on the far side.

Bison Two didn’t even slow down. It plunged straight in with another massive splash.

The trapped Bison One let out a low, pitiful moan.

The pit had been dug for just one animal and wasn’t overly deep, but it still did the job. Number Two couldn’t haul itself out ight away.

Leeanne didn’t waste a heartbeat. She dashed over, scooped up the fine iron axe she’d dropped earlier, raced back to the dge, and swung down with brutal force at the exposed neck.

She chopped fast and hard, terrified it might climb free any second.

Two deep, meaty thunks later, the bison let loose a scream that nearly shattered her eardrums.

Then, somehow, it surged upward and dragged itself over the rim.

Leeanne spun and ran fullout once more.

After a dozen panicked strides, the pounding hooves went silent. She risked a quick look back

Bison Two had dropped to its knees beside the pit, chest heaving in ragged gasps, letting out weak, pained groans.

Leeanne stood frozen.

The groans grew fainter until the massive body swayed, collapsed sideways, and finally lay still.

She waited a full minute before creeping closer.

[Bison: Paralyzed and unconscious, severely weakened. Decompose?]

Yes,she blurted, half expecting it to twitch back to life.
