Chapter 41
CI 85 vochary
There was nothing special in the loot today, just as expected. No surprises in the boxes, but Leeanne scored a bag of dried shrimp and, in one of them, a 22–piece white bone dinnerware set.
Leeanne was really pleased. Finally, she had some proper dishes.
There was also a pink tracksuit that looked pretty cute. Leeanne figured she’d save it for later.
After opening all the boxes, she started thinking about what to cook for dinner.
There were already a few early strawberries ripening in the mystical cherry grove, but the cabbages and spring onions were still a little too young. She felt that maybe they’d be just right tomorrow or the day after.
She headed to the mystical cherry grove first, picked a handful of cabbage, and snagged a few of those strawberries.
She planned to whip up some sweet and sour chicken, cabbage, steamed cod, and a fried fish.
Only a feast could do justice to all the effort she’d put in today.
She needed some ginger and garlic, so Leeanne wrote in the Local Chat: [Anyone got ginger, spring onion, or garlic? I can trade wood, iron, beef, fish, whatever you want.]
Everyone was busy talking about hunting on the island, but as soon as they heard Leeanne, the topic instantly switched.
Someone asked: [Leeanne, what do you need ginger, spring onion, and garlic for?]
Leeanne shot back. [What else? For cooking, obviously! And I’m talking about meat dishes.]
Someone grumbled: [I’m jealous. We’re still gnawing on bread roll, and Leeanne’s already picky about her veggies and asking for ginger, spring onion, and garlic. Seriously, the gap between us is unreal.]
Someone snorted: [Alright, of all people, you just had to compare yourself to Leeanne? That’s just asking for trouble.]
Myron scoffed: [Instead of training and getting fit, all you care about is stuffing your face? You planning to get yourself killed in the island hunt?]
Leeanne retorted, not holding back. [Enjoying my food and drinks doesn’t stop me from watching you crash and burn.]
Myron was like a rabid dog. She used to ignore him, but now she clapped back at him every single time.
Before long, she’d managed to trade for a chunk of ginger, a few garlic bulbs, and two spring onions.
The spring onions were pretty old and had already gone to seed, so she collected the seeds to use for planting.
She kept one piece of ginger and one garlic bulb, stashed them along with the spring onion seeds in the mystical cherry grove, planning to plant them all together later.
With all the ingredients ready, she started cooking.
She sliced up some ginger and spring onion, sprinkled them over the cod, added a splash of soy sauce and wine, and let it marinate. Then she steamed it in the small steamer until done.
Next up was the sweet and sour chicken. She cut the chicken into chunks, rinsed them, and blanched them in boiling water- Then she heated up a pan. poured in some oil, and tossed in some seasonings.

By the time the cod was done, Leeanne plated both the cod and the sweet and sour chicken on white dishes and set them near the brazier to keep them warm.
She also put some potatoes in a small pot to steam.
Next, she whipped up the fried fish and the cabbage.
Before long, both dishes were done, and the potato was ready too.
Leeanne used two plates, one for the sweet and sour chicken and cabbage, the other for the fried fish and steamed cod. She also scooped some potato into a small bowl and topped it with two plump, ruby–red strawberries.
Then she sent the meal over to Camelia Cross.
Camelia was plopped down on a wooden chest, totally spacing out.
Leeanne had said she’d cook for her, so Camelia just waited.
She’d been waiting for two whole hours, her stomach rumbling nonstop, but still no sign of food.
With nothing to do and no weapons out here on the water, she was bored out of her mind.
Just then, her private messages lit up.
Jocelyn Cross: [Hey girl, I’m eating right now. Check out what I’ve got. One simple grilled fish and one heated bread roll.
[I finally got some fish. No salt or seasonings, but fish from the sea is delicious just grilled. Your brother–in–law got a small fishing net and caught these just for me.]
Camelia didn’t move a muscle.
Jocelyn was her cousin, just half a year older than her.
Camelia was calm and generous, started archery when she was little, always got top grades, and was basically the kid all the relatives compared their own kids to.
Jocelyn was prettier, cutesy, and spoiled, super competitive, too. When she saw everyone praising Camelia, she tried archery, but couldn’t handle the grind and gave up after a few years.
Jocelyn kept measuring herself against Camelia, both in secret and out loud. In the end, she finally scored a win. She snatched Camelia’s fiancé, Hale Robertson, who was also an archery ace.
Ever since she snatched Hale away, Jocelyn was constantly flaunting it in Camelia’s face.
After Survival on the Seas kicked off, the two hardly spoke. The only time they did was when Jocelyn posted in chat asking to join Myron’s crew.
Her fiancé, Hale, tracked her down, and he was thriving. He’d been bringing her food every day lately
Now Jocelyn was back at it, rubbing her good fortune in Camelia’s face.
Camelia never bothered to respond. She just ignored it all.

But when she saw the grilled fish and bread roll Jocelyn sent, her stomach growled even louder.
Did Leeanne forget about me, or is dinner just taking forever?‘ Camelia thought to herself.

Camelia wasn’t about to ask for food. She took out her own bread roll, decided to toast it, and sliced up some beef to grill as vell.
she had just taken out her bread roll and beef to cook when Leeanne’s meal showed up.
Camelia stared at the two white bone plates and a bowl on the wooden chest, completely dumbfounded.
There were sweet and sour chicken, fried fish, cabbage, steamed cod, potatoes, and strawberries.
Leeanne is seriously something else!‘ Camelia thought.
he’d thought Leeanne would be doing well just to have some beef.
ut she had chicken, potatoes, and fish. Cabbage and strawberries were rare supplies. Almost no one in District 33 could get heir hands on those right now.
specially the cabbage, Leeanne was probably the only one in the whole district who had any.
amelia thought, ‘She’s seriously a force to be reckoned with.
she is just a girl in her twenties, but she is the richest person in District 33, and her combat strength is nothing to scoff at.
‘lus, she is tough as nails. She managed to push through that brutal training today without breaking a sweat.
amelia felt a surge of determination. She was older than Leeanne, so it looked like she needed to step up her game.
ist then, Jocelyn sent over some scraps from her grilled fish. [Camelia, I can’t finish it all. Want some?]
.cold glint flashed in Camelia’s eyes.
