Chapter 49

Pandas loved fruits. Leeanne wasn’t sure if the baby panda would like strawberries.

The panda cub sniffed the berry, then started munching happily, crunching away.

Once it finished, it started begging Leeanne for more. She gave it a few strawberries in a row, but finally stopped, afraid it’d get stuffed.

Hey, little guy, where’s your mom?Leeanne asked, scooping up the cub and giving it a big cuddle.

The panda cub let out a little whimper and squirmed, trying to wriggle free.

Leeanne set it down, and it wobbled off into the depths of the bamboo forest.

Leeanne thought for a second, but the temptation was just too much. She ended up following it.

She thought, If this cub doesn’t have a mom, I might as well bring it onto my raft.

I can grow tons of bamboo, and I’ve got all sorts of meat and fruit. Feeding it would be a piece of cake.

The panda cub led the way through the twisting bamboo paths, with Leeanne trailing behind. After about twenty minutes of winding and turning, they finally reached a clearing.

The panda cub happily bounded forward, letting out a couple of excited squeaks.

That was when Leeanne noticed a dozen or so dark red bamboo stalks growing right in the middle of the clearing.

[RainbowTipped Arrow Bamboo discovered. Secondorder mutated plant. The stalk is extremely tough, and its leaves and roots can be used as medicine.]

This bamboo’s definitely something special, Leeanne thought.

Leeanne had noticed that whenever a plant had good medicinal value or made for a great ingredient, the system would notify her. She guessed it was because she’d picked up Basic Pharmacology.

The panda cub let out a couple more excited squeaks, patted its paw, picked up a bamboo shoot, hugged it, and rolled over in a ball to Leeanne.

It stood up and held the shoot out to her. Leeanne saw the tip was a deep red.

[RainbowTipped Arrow Bamboo Shoot discovered. Secondorder mutated plant. A rare ingredient with special uses!

Leeanne’s eyes lit up. She realized she could plant this Rainbow Tipped Arrow Bamboo Shoot.

She thought the cub was super smart. It must have brought her the shoot to repay her kindness for feeding it strawberries

Thanks, little ball of fluff! Leeanne said, patting the cub’s head happily.

She’d come here to stock up on resources, and with such rare RainbowTipped Arrow Bamboo right in front of her, there was no way she was leaving emptyhanded.

She grinned and said, Hey Fluffy, mind if I dig up a few of your bamboot

The

panda cub tilted its head, not sure if it understood her, then just rolled over to the Rainbow Tipped Arrow Bamboo. wobbled a bit, and gestured at it, as if saying. Go ahead, take whatever you want!

Leeanne was over the moon. She hurried over, dug up three RainbowTipped Arrow Bamboo stalks and one Rainbow- Tipped Arrow Bamboo shoot, then asked, Fluffy, do you have a mom or dad?

she still wanted to sneak the little guy onto her raft.

f the cub didn’t want to tag along, she’d just dig up a few bamboo stalks and leave the rest for him.

luffy did a couple of rolls, and Leeanne had no clue what he meant.

he scooped the little guy up again. Hey, are you coming with me or not?Leeanne pressed, halfjoking, halfserious.

Suddenly, the bamboo nearby started shaking like crazy.

With a loud crash, a huge shape barreled out of the bamboo, letting out a fierce shout.

t was a fullgrown panda, looking absolutely furious. Leeanne panicked, scooped up the cub, and bolted into the bamboo.

The cub let out a couple of cheerful squeaks.

The adult panda fixed Leeanne with a fierce stare, but didn’t come any closer, just gave a menacing warning sound.

Leeanne suddenly got it. Wait, is this your cub?

The cub had already tumbled to the ground and was wobbling happily toward the adult panda.

Once it reached the big panda, it hugged its leg and tried to clamber up.

Well, looks like this little guy’s got a parent, and that parent’s got a real attitude,’ Leeanne thought.

Leeanne sighed in disappointment. She guessed that the panda cub was not coming with her after all.

The adult panda was adorable, but Leeanne knew it was seriously strong. One swipe and she’d be toast.

Alright, Fluffy, I’m heading out nowLeeanne said, deciding it was time to bail.

She backed away slowly, feeling cold sweat trickle down her back.

Dang, who knew such an adorable little fluffball would have such a scary parent?Leeanne thought.

When Leeanne froze, the adult panda let out a couple of menacing roars. It glanced down at its cub, then suddenly whipped

its head around and spotted that a few RainbowTipped Arrow Bamboo Shoots were missing

With a furious bellow, it shoved its cub out of the way and barreled straight toward Leeanne, rage in its eyes.

Leeanne thought, Oh no, this beast’s out for blood.

No way I can fight a panda solo!

Leeanne sucked in a breath, rolled to the side, scrambled up, and bolted for the hill nearby, where there was no bamboo,

The bamboo forest shook violently behind her, and Leeanne could practically feel the chill of danger at her back.

She heard the wind whoosh behind her, swerved to the side, sucked in a breath, and dashed out of the bamboo forest.

She heard the panda cub let out a few playful, spoiled cries.

Leeanne ran a long way, finally reaching the hillside before she dared to look back. The adult panda was nowhere in sight.

Leeanne thought, That was way too close.

I almost got mauled by a big and cute animal.

Good thing that little fluffball is so cute and sweet. It probably got its parent to back off.

Wait, when I was running, I glimpsed some dark red on the panda’s belly and legs. Was it injured?

Should I go back and check on it?

The thought flashed through her mind, but Leeanne quickly pushed it aside.

Come on, this is just a game. That panda’s not some cuddly mascot, it’s a freaking beast. If I go back, I might not make it out alive, she told herself.

She’d already scored a bunch of bamboo and shoots, so it was time to hunt for more loot.

She headed down the hill, making sure to put some distance between herself and the bamboo forest.

After a few steps, she reached a flatter stretch of land. There was plenty of wild grass, and every now and then, she spotted plants about as tall as she was.

Their broad, long leaves stretched out, and several ears of corn dangled from the stalks.

Wait, isn’t that corn?Leeanne thought, her heart skipping a beat.

She circled one of the plants, peeled back the husk to check, and sure enough, it was corn, or at least, it looked a lot like it.

[Wild corn discovered. Edible. Can be used to feed chickens, ducks, and other animals!]

Leeanne thought, feeling a wave of relief, Yep, it’s definitely corn, and it’s safe to eat. At least I won’t drop dead from eating it

This wild corn was a bit smaller than regular corn, but the kernels were bigger. Each stalk had a few ears, way more than regular corn.

Now that she knew it was safe, Leeanne wasn’t worried at all. She peeled off a few tender kernels and popped them into her mouth.

They were slightly sweet and soft, and honestly, they tasted pretty good.
