Chapter 67
“But will this actually work?” Leeanne asked the Sea Demon Vine.

Even though the Sea Demon Vine was young, she knew a lot. She replied right away, “Of course it works! Divine birds never break their word.”
‘Awesome, Leeanne thought.
Leeanne fixed her gaze on the red–billed blue magpie. “How about this. Every day, I’ll give you ten strawberries and two slices of watermelon.
“Later, you’ll get pears, oranges, and more. If you want peanuts or sunflower seeds, that’s fine too. But you’ll have to be my ride!”
The red–billed blue magpie looked a little dazed by all the details, but she perked up at the mention of food and chirped happily, “Strawberries, watermelon, oranges, pears…”
Leeanne was speechless.
‘Forget it, she thought.
She tried again. “If you agree to be my mount, I’ll take care of you. Deal?”
The red–billed blue magpie squawked, “Deal!”
She was getting impatient. She thought, ‘It’s just some strawberries. Why is Leeanne making such a big deal? Fine, whatever, I’ll just agree.
‘If I don’t agree, I’ll starve!‘
Leeanne smiled, pulled out a basket of strawberries, and gave them to the red–billed blue magpie. Red–billed blue magpie chirped happily a few times happily and went off to eat.
She had to admit that the magpie got a sweet voice.
Guess that’s why she’s destined to become a bluejay!‘ Leeanne thought.
Just imagining herself with a bluejay mount, something only immortals could ever hope for, Leeanne could barely contain her excitement.
Excited as she was, Leeanne didn’t let it slow her down. After feeding red–billed blue magpie, she set some strawberry seeds out to dry, planning to grow even more strawberries.
She was in the middle of her chores when she suddenly felt a weight on her leg. It was Flutty, hugging her calf and whimpering softly, he looked irresistibly cute.
“Oh no, you haven’t eaten yet. I totally forgot, I’m so sorry!” Leeanne exclaimed, feeling a bit guilty
She’d been busy since the crack of dawn and had completely forgotten about the little guy, which made her feel a bit bad
She quickly grabbed some fresh bamboo shoots and set them outside the storage shed for Fluffy Fluffy immediately rolled over and started munching away.
Leeanne rubbed her back, feeling the ache from all the work. ‘What a busy day. I really need to plant more bamboo in the future, she thought.

Chapter 67
By the time she finished feeding Fluffy and red–billed blue magpie, it was already after three in the afternoon.
That was when Leeanne finally started making lunch for herself.
She couldn’t be bothered to cook anything fancy today, so she just warmed up a few sandwiches for a quick bite.

After eating, she opened up the Assault Squad chat channel, where Danelle and the others had already been talking for a while.
Rodger: [I had no idea some folks were actually living pretty well!]
Danelle: [You mean the Quality of Life Contest? I watched it, and honestly, no one’s even close to Leeanne.]
Rodger: [Quit always comparing everyone to Leeanne. If you do, nobody else even matters!]
Danelle: [Man, the most overrated entry has got to be that one from Myron. With that weak setup, he somehow shot up to the top 200 in just one morning. Honestly, there are plenty of folks ranked below 300 who totally outclass him.]
Rodger: [The rules don’t spell it out, but it’s pretty clear contestants can beg for votes. Myron’s just been spamming everyone for votes!]
William: [They’re offering a piece of wood for every vote, totally buying votes!]
Danelle: [Whoa, how do you know that?]
William: [Heard it from someone. They even tried to buy votes from my friend.]
Danelle: [Wow, didn’t expect you to have such a wide network, William!]
William was speechless.
Rodger: [He’s not the only one hustling for votes. I bet a bunch of folks are pulling the same stunt. I saw another entry that hid their district and name, it’s called “Night’s End, Wine Gone.”
[That’s the one I showed you yesterday. He’s already in the top ten. If I’m right, most of his votes are probably from his district. Guy’s pretty popular over there.]
Danelle blinked. [But he hid his district and name!]
Rodger laughed. [Yeah, that’s just to keep outsiders in the dark. He can still spread the word to his own district!)
Danelle: [Got it.]
Danelle quickly put two and two together. [So that’s why Leeanne’s entry is still stuck outside the top 300?]
Rodger let out a sigh. (We uploaded pretty late and didn’t do any canvassing, so we’re way down the list. Hardly anyone even sees our entry, so it just can’t move up. What a waste.]
They were all feeling anxious, but since Leeanne was the one competing, they didn’t feel right pushing her about it
With so many people, like seventy or eighty thousand, just breaking into the top 500 was tough Leeanne hadn’t done any canvassing at all, and she was already sitting at 510th place. Honestly, that was pretty impressive.
The real issue was that the top 500 entries were all on one page, while everyone else was stuck on another.
So anyone ranked below 500 barely got any exposure, making it nearly impossible to move up.

They weren’t the only ones wishing things were different. Jessica Atwood had been messaging Leeanne all morning.
Jessica: [Leeanne, you joined the contest too, right? Send me your entry ID so I can vote for you!
[Why can’t I find your entry?]
Even Emmett reached out to Rodger and the others to check in. After all, in their eyes, Leeanne was the only one with a real shot at making it to the top.
Finally, Rodger and Danelle couldn’t hold back anymore. [Leeanne, how about we post your entry ID in the Local Chat? A lot of people would be happy to help you out.]
Leeanne shook her head.
For now, she’d just follow the survival tips, keep a low profile, and see how things played out. If it really came down to it, she’d think about something else.
Her entry only showed a coffeehouse, an archery target, and some red lights, stuff she’d never shown off before. No way anyone could tell it was Leeanne just by looking at the pic.
In the contest submissions, both the district and the contestant’s name were hidden. Unless one went out of their way to spill the beans, nobody had a clue which server they belonged to.
If Leeanne wanted to stay hidden, she totally could.
But Leeanne was determined to snag a spot in the top ten. No way she was letting that slip by.
