Chapter 84
Everyone was gossiping about the situation around them.
A lot of people have started killing. My friend is already dead… boo hoo…”

“Seriously, after all the hard work, killing a beast only gives 5 points, while killing a person gives 10 points. What do you think everyone will choose? Plus, you can take all their supplies when you kill someone…”
Are they all animals?”
“Well, it’s survival of the fittest now. You’d better get used to it.”
Leeanne paused, a bit stunned. ‘Wait, killing someone only gives 10 points? Then why did I get 20 for taking out Wilmot, 50 for Derick, and different amounts for Myron and Mick? Is it because they were stronger? Well, that must be it!
Leeanne watched the Local Chat feed for a while longer.
As she stared at the chaotic Local Chat, a chill crept up her spine.
It’s just a few points and a handful of supplies, yet so many have already begun to abandon their conscience and turn on each other, Leeanne thought.
Her heart ached as she typed in the Assault Squad group chat, “I’m okay now, really. You don’t need to come over. I have a Summon Card. If things get dangerous, I can use it to call you guys.”
Danelle replied right away, “Leeanne, are you sure you’re alright? Did you get hurt?”
Actually, Rodger, Danelle, and William had already asked several times before, but Leeanne had only just noticed their earlier questions.
She felt genuinely touched. These people truly cared about her, and as soon as they got her coordinates, they were already on their way to help.
“I’m fine. Have any of you been attacked?” she asked.
Danelle said, clearly annoyed, “I ran into someone who thought he could kill me just because I’m a woman. But I took him out.”
Rodger said, “No one’s tried anything with me so far. Most people are still going it alone, and not many are bold enough to make a move. But I’m seeing more folks forming teams. Once that happens, things are bound to get even crazier.”
William chimed in, “I haven’t run into anyone yet.”
Leeanne glanced at Local Chat, and sure enough, tons of people were secretly teaming up on the down–low.
The island hunt had been hyped up for days, and with the Summon Tokens issued, plenty of players had already picked out their squads ahead of time. Once they entered the island, they would immediately team up if they were close by.
Rodger sounded worried. “Maybe we should meet up quickly. What if we run into a team of five or six people? That would be way too dangerous.”
William agreed, “Yeah, I think we should regroup too.”
Rodger asked, “Let’s meet up. Leeanne, what’s your take?”

Honestly, Leeanne really wanted to go out and scavenge for supplies, but the island hunt was seriously dangerous. One–on- one, she could hold her own, but if she got surrounded by a group? That was a whole different ballgame.
“Even the strongest fighter can’t take on a whole group,‘ Leeanne thought. ‘What if something goes wrong?”
In the end, she agreed, “Alright, let’s regroup. Everyone, report your coordinates.”
Everyone reported their coordinates. Leeanne saw that they were quite far apart, so she chose a central location and had everyone gather there.
By gathering together, their numbers increased, forming a Strength that made others hesitant to attack them.
Unfortunately, Leeanne found that it would take her three hours to reach the central gathering location.
‘Never mind, I’ll get moving first,‘ she thought.
She took a break for more than half an hour, organized her gear, and had a few strawberries.
Little Blue flew over, acting all sweet and trying to butter her up, rubbing its neck against her.
Since Little Blue had finally pulled its weight, Leeanne generously gave it a few strawberries and half a cherry.
The red–billed blue magpie happily gobbled up the treats.
“Alright, let’s roll!” Leeanne stood up and gave Little Blue’s wing a gentle pat: “Go patrol the area for me, and if you notice anything unusual, let me know right away!”
“Got it!” Little Blue chirped, surprisingly obedient for once.
With a flap of its wings, Little Blue took off, and Leeanne got her bearings and started walking west, where the group was supposed to gather.
She’d barely walked ten minutes when Little Blue came flapping back, wings waving frantically. “Alert! Alert! Something weird’s up.”
Leeanne frowned. ‘Does this little guy even know what counts as “weird“? Eh, whatever, let’s see what it found,‘ she thought.
She patted Little Blue gently. “Lead the way.”
Following the red–billed blue magpie, she stepped into a grove of trees.
Hearing voices up ahead, Leeanne slowed her pace and motioned for Little Blue to slip away quietly.
After a few more steps, she overheard someone say, “Camelia, why are you still so stubborn? Survival of the fittest, it’s how things work now.”
Leeanne paused. ‘Camelia? Could that be Camelia Cross?‘
She stopped in her tracks.
Sure enough, Camelia’s voice came through. “Just killing anyone you come across? Do you even call yourselves human?”
A man’s voice shot back, “Camelia, we’re in survival mode now. This isn’t the old world anymore. You gotta learn to adapt. Emmett’s loaded with supplies. If we take him out, we can grab all his stuff.”
‘Emmett?‘ Leeanne thought, a bit surprised.

Emmett’s voice came through, all desperate and trying to butter them up. “Hey, come on, don’t do this. All I’ve got is some bread rolls, bottled water, and axes. I’ll give you everything, just please, don’t kill me, I’m begging you!”
The man let out a cold laugh. “That’s all you’ve got? Who’s gonna buy that?”
A girl’s voice, sugary–sweet but mocking, chimed in, “Yeah, seriously, you came to the island hunt and didn’t bring anything to keep yourself alive?”
Emmett whimpered, “I swear, I really don’t have anything else…”
The man snickered, “Well, once we take you out, everything you own is up for grabs.”
The girl’s voice sounded sugary sweet, but her words were downright ruthless. “That’s right. If we kill you, we get all your stuff and can rack up some points, too. Hmph!”
Leeanne spied through the branches and saw four people standing a short distance away.
One of them was Emmett, hunched over and grinning nervously as he tried to please the man and woman in front of him.
The man looked to be about twenty–seven or twenty–eight, around six feet tall. He had thick eyebrows and big eyes, and was fairly good–looking. He carried a bow and a few arrows on his back and held a polished wooden stick in his hand.
The girl, probably in her mid–twenties, had a pointed chin, arched eyebrows, and slender eyes. She was rather delicate and pretty, and at that moment, she was clinging to the man’s arm, giving Emmett a look full of arrogance.
Camelia stood off to the side, gripping an iron axe, her brows tightly knit.
The guy didn’t waste any more words. He raised his wooden stick and smashed it down at Emmett with real force.
Emmett let out a loud yelp, practically tumbling and crawling behind Camelia, begging, “Save me, please!”
Camelia stepped up, swinging her iron axe to block his wooden stick. “Hale, are you seriously going to kill someone who hasn’t done anything to you?”
Hale sighed. “Camelia, are you really going to stand against us? I’ve tried to reason with you, but you just don’t get it.”
The girl curled her lip. “Camelia, with that attitude, you’ll never survive out here.”
Camelia shot back coldly, “Jocelyn, Hale, I won’t let you just kill people at will.”
Leeanne realized. ‘So the guy is Hale, and the girl is Jocelyn. Wait, aren’t Jocelyn and Camelia cousins?‘
Hale paused, weighing his chances against Camelia. He sighed, “Forget it, Jocelyn, let’s get out of here.”
He turned away, and out of Camelia’s sight, gave Jocelyn a meaningful look.
Camelia didn’t notice a thing, but Leeanne saw it all. She frowned, feeling something was off.
Jocelyn picked up on Hale’s signal right away. She pouted, sidled up to Camelia, and grabbed her arm. “Oh, Camelia, just hear us out for once…”
While saying that, she glanced back and winked at Hale behind Camelia’s back.
