Chapter 108
The elevator shot straight down toward the basement level.
Inside, Hayley jabbed every button she could. The elevator ignored them all, if something at your bu kept descending, carrying everyone inside rapidly toward the lower floor.
Her mind was racing,
Staring at the elevator like she had just seen a ghost, Hayley ran through every possible explanation in her beat
First off, it definitely couldn’t be a ghost. Even if the world had gone to hell and zombies roamed everywhere. there was no way ghosts were suddenly a thing,
And even if, by some ridiculous chance, ghosts were real, what kind of lame ghost would waste its power pressing elevator buttons just to scare people?
If the ghost had supernatural abilities, why not crash the whole damn elevator and wipe everyone out in one go?
Honestly, unless it could physically harm her, everything else was just weak nonsense.
Ghosts had never been on Hayley’s list of concerns. She was afraid of fire, bullets, and bombs. But ghosts? Please! They should be the ones scared of her.
So if the elevator wasn’t malfunctioning, that meant someone or something had to be physically pressing the button. It was either a person or a zombie.
Would a zombie press an elevator button? Not unless it hit it by accident.
But what if this really was the place rumored to be the home of the so-called Zombie King? If that legend from her past life was true, maybe a top-level zombie could pull something like that off.
Still, she wasn’t sure. She had never been here before or seen that kind of creature herself. And since it was still early in the apocalypse, even if a super zombie existed, it shouldn’t be that powerful yet.
So, odds were, it was a person.
Hayley glanced at Leonard. One quick look between them, and they communicated their thoughts perfectly. 1 Whether it was a person or a zombie, whoever was down there wasn’t going to live through tonight.
Ding!
The elevator kept descending, floor by floor, until it finally reached the last level. The doors slid open, casting a narrow beam of light into the pitch-black hallway.
The people outside clearly weren’t expecting that, because…
“Woof! Woof! Woof!”
Six dogs burst out of the elevator, lunging straight at the two figures waiting outside.
There were only two of them, but the dogs moved fast and hit hard, taking them by surprise. Within seconds, the pair was overwhelmed.
Nobody would expect dogs to appear in this abandoned building,
Still, they weren’t amateurs. Once they hit the floor, they reacted instantly. One started grappling while the other

reached for a gun.
But just then, two figures darted out of the elevator. They moved in from both sides, their motions so fast that they blurred before the eyes.
Hayley and Leonard had the upper hand from the start. They were fast and precise, their every motion showing the skill of elite special forces perfectly in sync with the dogs.
