Chapter 110
This was a large industrial elevator, rated for 20 people or about 3,500 pounds.
Hayley had six dogs with her, all well-fed and sturdy, each weighing close to 80 pounds. Add herself, Leonard, and the 12 soldiers from Liam’s squad, and they were right at the limit.
“Over capacity!”
Nadia Barnes heard the alarm blare. She immediately shouted at Hayley, who was standing at the back, “Get your dogs out of here, now!”
The moment Hayley heard that, her eyes went cold.
“Over capacity, huh?” In the cramped elevator, she kicked Nadia square in the chest. “Then you get out!”
“Ahh!”
Nadia stumbled backward out of the elevator, barely caught by the soldiers guarding the perimeter, who were still firing at the horde outside. They pulled her back just in time.
Meanwhile, at the elevator entrance, Liam stood firm with a shoulder-mounted launcher.
“Drop your weapons!” he barked.
The zombies were less than 30 feet away.
As soon as he spoke, Liam ripped the missile launcher from his shoulder and hurled it into the corridor, blocking the narrow path for a few precious seconds.
The other soldiers, though reluctant, tossed their weapons out as well. The weapons smashed into the first wave of zombies, slowing them just enough to create a brief bottleneck.
But soon, the horde behind trampled over their fallen, like rats swarming over a log in a flood, climbing and clawing their way forward.
Still, Liam’s plan worked. By ditching their weapons, the weight dropped enough for the elevator to function.
As Nadia frantically slammed the “Close Door” button, the panels began to slide shut, inch by inch.
Just as they were about to seal, a female zombie in a torn white lab coat dove forward from the floor in a horrifying leap.
At the back of the elevator, Hayley’s eyes flashed. She tightened her grip, ready to unleash her power.
But before she could, a flash of lightning streaked past her.
Crack!
Then came fireballs, flying metal blades, vines, and bursts of water, all striking at once.
Almost everyone in the elevator had activated their gifts. The powers weren’t very strong, but nearly everyone had
one.
The female zombie at the doorway was electrocuted, burned, sliced, and slammed all at once before collapsing into a smoking heap.
What surprised Hayley most wasn’t that almost everyone here had a gift. It was who had unleashed that lightning

Liam.
He had a lightning-variant gift, and his power was clearly stronger than the others’. That was an extremely rare gift.
