Chapter 111

When Derek and the others saw Hayley’s expression, they all stiffened in unison A chill ran straight through them.

It was over. Nadia had pushed Hayley too far this time.

Before anyone could say a word or try to defuse the tension, a deep, cold voice cut through the air.

“Captain Barnes!”

Liam felt the atmosphere in the cramped elevator shift, and his expression turned cold. His tone was flat and sharp, nothing like how he had spoken before. He was normally polite, but now he sounded impatient.”

“Captain Caldwell!” Nadia snapped when she heard him speak. She looked straight at him and tried to argue. “You saw it! That woman tried to kick me out! She was trying to kill me! She’d get all of us killed!”

“Let’s get upstairs first. Come swipe your card.” Liam tapped the elevator control panel.

They were still stuck at B1, and this elevator required a card to operate.

Hayley finally understood why she couldn’t get to the floor she wanted. After selecting a floor, someone also had to swipe a card. “No, go to B2!” Nadia shouted.

Liam’s brows tightened, his impatience growing. “We already took heavy losses today. We weren’t fully prepared. We should pull back and come back later.”

He looked exhausted. Several comrades had died today. Even if they weren’t in his squad, it weighed heavily on him. The operation had been reckless, and they were underprepared. Now, they had lost their weapons. He didn’t want to risk more.

Besides, Hayley and her people were in the elevator. He had to at least make sure they got out.

“No way!” Nadia refused.

She pushed forward and slammed her card against the reader/The button cluster on the panel lit up.

“B2 is where the supplies are. It’s definitely safe there. We just thought B1 was safe,” she insisted, turning to stare at Hayley and then at Liam. “We have to take the stuff with us. If we leave it, who knows what danger will come later? Captain Caldwell, swipe your card now!”

Liam’s jaw tightened as he stared coldly at Nadia. After a long time, he finally pulled another card from his pocket.

Ding!

Both cards were swiped together.

A new button lit up on the elevator panel: B2.

Hayley’s brows rose. There was another level. This facility really did have secrets. It took two admin cards to unlock the hidden

level.

Her gaze darkened. This place was not simple. It might very well be…

As she was lost in her thoughts, she met someone else’s eyes.

Liam, standing by the panel, looked straight at her. “When we’re done, we’ll bring you up.”

Hayley stared back. “What if something happens to you while you’re down there? How do we get up?”

“If we die, you die with us,” Nadia said with a cruel smile. “You’re the ones who came in here in the first place. “

Hayley felt the last of her patience snap. She was about to make Nadia meet her maker when a long, slender hand reached
