The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 114

Chapter 11/

“Alright!”

Hayley was in a pretty good mood. She walked behind the squad, Leonard and her dogs trotting alongside her.

Ding!

Nadia swiped her card at the security panel, and the heavy doors in front of them slid open.

Hayley finally got a full look at the place. At that moment, she realized that B2 was far bigger than she had imagined.

Directly ahead was a huge hall, with office areas on both the left and right. Each side had neat rows of glass-walled offices, all perfectly aligned.

By Hayley’s estimate, there had to be at least 100 offices down here. It was easily larger than any of the building’s floors above.

It was clear now that this was the real core of the pharmaceutical research facility.

Once again, Hayley felt she had made the right call to stick close to Liam’s team.

“Left or right?” Liam asked Nadia.

Nadia’s face was still pale from earlier. After getting roughed up by Hayley, most of her arrogance was gone, and her tone softened.

“I don’t know. The intel only said it’s somewhere on this level. We’ll have to check each room.”

Liam could only suppress his irritation. What kind of reckless idiot came into a mission this important without solid prep?

Right then, his eyes flicked toward Hayley, who was quietly observing everything from behind. If it had been her running this operation, she would never have gone in blind like that.

“Two per group. We’ll start on the left,” Liam ordered.

“Yes, sir!”

The soldiers immediately split up into pairs, moving with practiced precision.

There were 12 of them total, forming 6 teams. Liam paired up with Nadia.

He glanced again to see what Hayley would do, only to watch her casually jom Derek and Ethan’s team.

“Let’s move, Captain Caldwell,” Nadia said, clearly relieved that Hayley hadn’t followed them.

Liam turned away and started checking the first row of offices.

“Boss!”

“Leonard!”

Derek and Ethan looked thrilled to see them join.

“How are you guys holding up?” Leonard asked.

“We’re fine,” Derek said. “What about you?”

Leonard tilted his head toward Hayley. “Better than fine.”

Ľ

From his tone alone, Derek and Ethan could tell following Hayley had been more than worth it. A flicker of envy crossed their faces. Being on Hayley’s side didn’t sound half bad.

“What are you guys here for?” Hayley asked as they walked through the last row of offices.

The corridor was lined with locked glass doors on both sides, each office filled with high-end instruments and lab gear.

“Sorry, classified mission, Deick said flatly.

Hayley raised an eyebrow. Well, at least he took his job seriously.

Then, he leaned closer and whispered, “But, Boss, just between us… When it’s time to pull out, stick close to us. Don’t hang around in here. This place has an auto-destruction system.”

Hayley blinked. What?

When she turned toward Derek, he had already straightened back up, his face cold and serious again.

Hayley couldn’t help but laugh at the eight-foot-tall guy who was trying so hard to look tough. She reached up and ruffled his
