Chapter 115
The only good news was that there weren’t any zombies on B2.
Liam checked his watch. “Everyone, take a 30-minute break right here,”
“Yes, sir!”
They had left the base at 3 AM to carry out the mission. The fight underground had cost them dearly, so they needed a short rest to recover some strength.
As soon as Liam gave the order, the team naturally split into two groups to rest together.
Hayley sat with Derek’s group, and soon, Caleb, Logan, and Gavin wandered over.
“Boss!”
“Ms. Reid!”
“Ms. Reid!”
All three greeted her with bright smiles.
“How’s life back there? Not as good as when you were with me, huh?” Hayley said with a teasing grin.
Her words made everyone look a little awkward. She wasn’t wrong.
After surviving and returning to base, they hadn’t been met with the glory they once had. Instead, everything had changed.
They used to take pride in being soldiers of the nation, believing that no matter how tough things got, they were serving their country. But when they returned, they found that Base K1 had undergone a total restructuring.
The military command was broken apart, and everyone was reassigned as base guards rather than soldiers. If it weren’t for Liam being their captain, they would’ve been scattered across different divisions.
Hayley had warned them before that the future belonged to the new base civilization, that the age of old military honor was over.
She had been right.
Without Liam, they wouldn’t even know who they were serving anymore.
Plus, the living conditions at the base had taken a nosedive. It was nowhere near as good as the meals at Hayley’s place.
“Come get your food.”

Liam’s voice carried over from the other side. He stood next to Nadia, who hadn’t brought anything with her.
Nadia lifted her palm, and instantly, a pile of supplies appeared out of thin air. Only then did Hayley realize Nadia was one of those inventory-variant Gifted.
After pulling out the supplies, Nadia turned her head slightly, giving Hayley a smug, challenging look.
Hayley met Nadia’s eyes and gave a calm, knowing smile.
The proud spark in Nadia’s face faltered immediately. She turned away, pretending she hadn’t started anything
A few minutes later, Derek and his team came back carrying their share of the rations.
There were five meal boxes in total, still steaming hot. It looked like Base K1 had packed them before departure.
“Boss, you used to feed us all the time. Today, it’s our turn. Let’s eat together!”
“Yeah, we’ll share!”
