The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 126

Chapter 126

Chapter 175

“Move it! Now!”

A lazy, sharp voice cut through the air like thunder.

Everyone froze, staring at Hayley as she swung her palm, unleashing her impressive water element powers.

Hayley was a Gifted, too! And a strong one, at that!

Even Leonard, locked out and biting his nails, was stunned.

He couldn’t believe his boss was Gifted, too. How many hidden skills did Hayley even have?

Bang!

Crash!

The water wall exploded outward. In an instant, every zombie surrounding them was blasted back by high-pressure water.

“Countdown: seven seconds!”

“Run! Move!”

Derek and the others snapped out of their shock. There was no time to gawk.

They stumbled forward in pairs or threes, supporting one another as they sprinted during the final countdown.

“Countdown: five seconds!”

“Four seconds!”

“Three seconds!”

Hayley, already faster than the rest, unleashed her powers, holding off zombies while racing toward the main door.

She quickly swiped the card. The door required two cards to enter, but only one to exit.

“Two seconds!”

Ding!

“One second!”

The door swung open at the very last moment. Everyone stumbled out, running on nothing but sheer winpower.

Ding! “Countdown complete! Self-destruct sequence initiated!”

The doors behind Hayley slammed shut.

This time, no card could open them again.

Thud, thud!

Thud, thud, thud!

The zombies that had been following crashed against the glass door.

Soaked from the earlier water blast, they thrashed at the glass, even more grotesque and terrifying than before

Then, there was a hiss. A thick white mist sprayed from above them.

“We need to get out, now,” Liam panted, having barely survived. “The entire B1 and B2 are going to self destruct!”

Hearing this, everyone found another burst of strength. They pushed through their numb, aching limbs to escape.

At that moment, they noticed a woman lying in the corner.

Her neck was bent unnaturally aba full 180 degrees, and she lay stiff and lifeless. Around her, supplies had spilled everywhere.

Liam’s gaze darkened as he looked at Nadia’s body. “She’s dead?”

“I took her out,” Leonard said.

Hayley’s eyes cooled. “So quick to claim credit, huh?”

Liam met Hayley’s stare, his lips cold and hard. “Thank you.”

Hayley noticed something different in his expression. This man had changed.

Liam glanced at the supplies near Nadia’s body. Among them were two machines, and stacks of food. There was also a pile of 16- oz gold bars, at least 100 of them.

Most obvious were the bags of pasta and flour. There were over 100 bags of pasta, weighing over 100 pounds each, plus a messy but clearly valuable assortment of items.

The total volume must have been around 100 cubic feet.

Nadia had told them she only had 35 cubic feet worth of storage, but obviously, she was lying. She had hidden her family’s valuable items and food, leaving only a small amount for inventory.

Liam’s eyes flashed with lethal intent.

The Barneses deserved everything coming to them!

“Everyone, haul this up. We’re moving out,” he said coldly.

“On it!”

Ignoring the pasta, Liam had them carry the machines first. Once the machines were in the elevator, everyone else filed in.

Hayley, unusually modest this time, just watched the elevator fill.

“Forget it. I’ll wait for the next one. Don’t wanna overload it. Leonard, help them with the rest.”

“Got it, Boss!” Leonard said.

At Hayley’s words, Liam’s eyes darkened with focus. He watched as she stailed and swiped the cards, waving them off as the elevator doors closed. 1

She looked as friendly as anyone could be, a picture-perfect example of a kind, trustworthy ally.

Hayley’s face lit up even more as she watched the elevator display show it heading upward.

Today was definitely a profitable day.

Time to grab some loot!

Others might not have storage space, but she sure did!

Eyeing the gold bars and supplies that had spilled from Nadia’s inventory, Hayley waved her hand to absorb everything.

Some people were useless while alive, but surprisingly helpful after dying.

Hayley then aimed her AK at the thoroughly dead Nadia, squeezing off a couple of shots. She made sure Nadia was as dead as dead could be.

There. Finally, some satisfaction!

No one crossed Hayley and lived to tell the tale.

She settled scores without mercy. Vengeance was her language, and she repaid every offense a hundredfold.

After dealing with Nadia, Hayley strolled calmly to the elevator and pressed the button to go down. The doors opened quickly.

To her surprise, Liam was already inside and following her down.

“You’re still here?” she asked.

“I couldn’t leave you,” he said. “B1 and B2 are about to self-destruct. We need to get out fast.”

“Okay.” Hayley swiped the cards, shutting the elevator doors. “What do you mean by self-destruct? Can it wipe out all the

zombies?”

Liam nodded. “Once the destruction system activates, both basement levels will collapse and be sealed.”

Hayley fell silent as she pondered, her eyes on Liam.

Something clicked in her mind.

“You have three gifts?” she asked.

“Yeah,” Liam admitted.
