The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 136

Chapter 136

Griffin lay on the ground, silent, his half-zombie eyes glinting with amusement as he watched Hayley move into the next pen.

Half an hour later, all the living pigs were in Hayley’s inventory.

She had Griffin drag the dead pigs into a pit. His half-zombie body somehow made him fast and strong, so the work went quickly.

Once piled up, she doused the carcasses with gasoline and set them on fire.

They had been dead long enough that the meat was inedible. Leaving them would breed bacteria and disease.

Burning them now would prevent a future outbreak.

Griffin stayed mostly quiet, one eye fixed on Hayley the whole time, a small smile on his face.

Chapter 136

Leonard and the dogs outside immediately made noise when they sensed the smoke.

“Woof! Wool!”

“Woof! Woof!”

“Boss! Are you okay in there?”

“I’m fine,” Hayley called back.

She cleared out the pig barn and stepped outside.

Leonard’s face was tense with worry.

“What happened?” he asked.

“Nothing.”

His gaze fell on the man trailing behind Hayley, the one wearing the cap and eye patch.

“Who’s that?”

“This is my new recruit. His name’s Griffin.” Hayley introduced them.

“Hey, man. Nice to meet you. I’m Griffin,” the man said with a grin, holding out his hand to Leonard.

Leonard didn’t like the look of Griffin at all. His one eye seemed friendly, but the slyness underneath made Leonard uneasy. Seeing Hayley take him in, Leonard frowned.

Ignoring Griffin’s hand, he turned to Hayley. “Boss, what about the pigs? Do you need me to handle them?” 1

Before Hayley could answer, Griffin spoke up. “No need. I’m an inventory-variant Gifted. I’ve already collected all the pigs.”

Leonard’s eyes widened. “You’re an inventory-variant Gifted?”

Griffin crossed his arms. “That’s right. With me on the team, no one needs to worry about supplies.”

He shot Hayley a sly grin, baring his teeth.

While Leonard wasn’t looking, he leaned closer to her and whispered, “Captain Gorgeous, this is our little secret”

Hayley looked at this cunning man, her lips curving into a devious smile. “Alright.”

If she hadn’t known his reputation beforehand, she might have been impressed by his cleverness and thoughtfulness.

He had noticed her sending Leonard away earlier and seamlessly lied, protecting her secret.

No wonder he had caused chaos for small bases in his previous life. This guy was one sly tox

“Let’s go.”

“Sure,” Griffin said, crossing his arms as he followed her His eye gleamed with excitement as he watched her back

Hayley had taken over the pig farm. The nearby chicken farm was useless, since all the chicks were dead.

Luckily, she had already stocked chickens and ducks back at the shelter, so there was no need to keep this one She told Grittin and Leonard to set it on fire and clear it out.

With that, the risks from this large farming area were completely eliminated Any potential animal borne disease that could sweep through multiple bases was stopped before it could start

Un the way back, Griffin sat inside the armored vehicle, his eyes wide with excitement as he took in the car and its interior.

“Captain Gorgeous, where didyou get this beauty?”

“Some questions are for asking, and some are not,” Hayley said coolly.

The colder she was, the more enthusiastic Griffin became.
