The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 138

Chapter 138

“What do you want?” Hayley finally asked, but she threw a punch at him as soon as she caught his glaring one-eyed stare.

“Don’t look at me when you talk,” she added, turning her head.

Griffin covered his eye, speechless.

“Can you be a little nicer to me? I grew up without parents. I was raised by my grandraa, who was a gambler. If she got upset, it was all hitting or yelling. I never had a friend growing up. And now with the apocalypse, I really want to stick with you, to be your comrade in life and death. Can you accept someone like me?”

“Just tell me what you want!”

“I want some supplies. Without them, I don’t feel safe.”

Leonard was stunned. He couldn’t believe how shameless this guy was.

Hayley just smiled faintly. She already knew his tricks. “Fine. Take the supplies from the car now, and I’ll give you a third of

whatever we collect tomorrow.”

“You’re an angel, beautiful and kind! I swear I’ll follow you and work hard!”

If it weren’t for his frozen loyalty meter, Hayley might have been fooled by his dramatic act.

This guy was tricky. Without real benefits, there was no way to tempt him.

Satisfied, Griffin happily went to the car to grab the supplies.

After he left, Leonard spoke up.

“Boss.”

“Give him whatever he wants,” Hayley said, her gaze darkening.

The next morning, bright and early, Hayley had everything set.

Griffin had already taken all the supplies from the car yesterday, so they had no breakfast.

Hayley secretly gave Leonard a little food so he and the dogs could eat first.

She couldn’t let her people go hungry.

When Griffin came downstairs, she pretended she hadn’t eaten

“Griffin, you’ve got everything. I haven’t even had breakfast. We need to go find more supplies.”

Griffin immediately opened his backpack and pulled out a bag of bread.

It was Hayley’s bread, stored in the armored vehicle as backup food. Griffin had moved it all yesterday.

“I can’t let you go hungry. Eat mine first,” Griffin said, offering it to her.

Hayley didn’t hesitate. It was hers, anyway “Let’s go If we don’t get more supplies now, we’ll be hungry later.”

She glanced at Griffin’s not so full backpack, then slipped the bread into her own bag and headed for the vehicle

Griffin and Leonard followed.

About ten minutes later, they reached the supermarket in the Eastern development zone

This area was the outskirts of Aecraton.

Chapter 120

Aecraton had developed well over the past few years. The outskirts used to have only a few small villa areas, but now there were several new residential blocks, though most were empty.
