Chapter 140
Chapter 1440
The supermarket was pitch black inside. Even though the morning sun was bright outside, the interior remained dark, lit only by the green emergency lights along the exit routes.
In front of Hayley were row after row of shelves, still stocked with winter jackets on end-of-season sale.
Huge red sale signs were posted beside the racks with bold letters screaming, “20 dollars!”
But no matter the discount, no customers were coming anymore.
The floor was thick with dust, covering everything.
Several racks on the right were crooked, and some had toppled over entirely. Lying scattered among them were limbs, torsos,
and round heads.
Leonard and the dogs moved closer and realized immediately.
“Boss, they’re mannequins. There are no corpses or blood.”
“Good,” Hayley replied.
They didn’t wait long before Griffin ran back.
“Captain Gorgeous, I checked. The first floor is clear of zombies and very safe. The supermarket entrance is ahead, and there are a bunch of supplies inside.”
Hayley met his one good eye and nodded. “Thanks for the work.”
“Captain Gorgeous and I will go collect supplies inside. Leonard, gather everything outside and wait. Once we’re done inside, we’ll bring it out,” Griffin ordered. 1
He had told Leonard that Hayley’s inventory-variant Gift was his.
Leonard looked at Hayley.
She nodded slightly and whispered to him, “Gather the supplies outside and bring the first batch to the truck.”
Her truck could hold roughly a ton of supplies.
“I’m on it!”
As soon as Hayley said it, Leonard got to work.
Griffin glanced at Hayley. “Let’s go. There’s plenty of supplies in the supermarket.
“Alright.”
Hayley wasn’t taking any chances with Griffin. She took two dogs with her and left the rest with Leonard
With someone like Griffin, the danger wasn’t staying with him; it was leaving him unattended
If he wanted to cause trouble, it would always be behind her back.
ľ
By keeping the majority of the dogs with Leonard in a relatively safe spot, she minimized any chance of mischiet
Hayley stayed cautious.
“You don’t seem to trust me,” Griffin said as they walked toward the center of the mall.
“If you’re thinking that, maybe you should ask yourself whether you trust me,” Hayley replied coolly
Griffin chuckled. By now, they had reached the supermarket section.

Chapter 148
The rolling shutter was down. Without a word, Griffin pulled out a device from his bag and fiddled with the lock. Soon, the door clicked open.
Hayley was now certain of one thing: this guy was a master at breaking and entering
“Nice. Did you do this professionally before?” she asked.
“Of course not. I’m a law-abiding citizen,” Griffin said proudly, hiding the tool in his hand. “But you… You don’t look ordinary. You’re decisive and efficient. Were you in a gang or something?” 1
“Haha, I’m a model citizen, the best there is,” Hayley shot back.
