The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 201

Chapter 201

These people were a group of researchers trapped inside an office building.

They had been stuck there for almost six months.

Thankfully, a high-end building like this had plenty of vending machines, office break rooms, and even a small convenience store on the ground floor, so they had supplies at first.

Unfortunately, those supplies were nowhere near enough to last them this long

After the zombie outbreak, they were trapped inside the building. They gathered everything they could find, rationed every bite, and tried to stretch the food as much as possible.

However, it still ran out a week ago

If they didn’t run into rescuers soon, they would starve to death in just a few more days.

Swoosh!

A nimble black figure slid in along the overhead cable line. The moment it landed, everyone’s eyes lit up with excitement. Help had arrived. They had finally been rescued!

Hayley came gliding over like a sleek cat. When she reached the window, she planted her feet on the frame, grabbed the cable with one hand, and reached for the edge with the other.

About five hands immediately stretched out from inside and pulled her in, shaking with excitement.

As soon as Hayley landed on the floor, loud pounding noises followed.

Bang, bang, bang!

Bang, bang, bang!

Bang, bang, bang!

“There are zombies outside!” the strongest-looking middle-aged man shouted to Hayley.

He pointed at the office door, which had been blocked by cabinets and a couch. Dark shapes could be seen moving behind the frosted glass.

Countless zombies were pressed against the glass, slamming wildly on the door.

“Have you all been stuck in this tiny room the whole time?” Hayley asked.

“Not at first. Our floor didn’t have any zombies. We only drew them all over here last time to save him.”

The man pointed at Griffin, who was sitting in the corner with his hands tied.

Hayley fell silent.

That was a lot to take in. She looked over at Griffin, who was bound and slumped against the wall.

Griffin really never disappointed. Wherever he went, trouble followed.

The walking disaster himself grinned as if he had done nothing wrong. “Come on. Don’t just talk about the bad stuff. Didn’t I bring you supplies?”

His words only stirred up more anger.

“If you weren’t trying to hit on Megan, would you have shared anything at all?”

Megan Buckley was a young woman in her early twenties. Long-terit hunger and malnutrition had left her thin and pale, and she hadn’t washed her hair in a long time, leaving it messy and dull.

Even so, her face was clean, and it was obvious she had once been very beautiful.

Megan kept her head lowered in the crowd, occasionally sneaking glances at Griffin, her eyes full of tangled emotion.

Hearing this, Hayley couldn’t help but sigh again. Griffin had not let her down at all.

The guy had bad habits across the board. Wherever he wens, trouble followed. Wherever he went, sleazy nonsense followed, too.

There was never a reason to expect anything decent from him.

“Hurry up and get across first. Leave him to me,” Hayley said.

She unfastened the clips and handed out two connectors. At most, two people could cross at once

Then, she strode straight toward Griffin.
