The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 202

Chapter 202

Hayley hit every spot on the human body that hurt like hell but wouldn’t cause permanent damage.

Every strike of hers avoided vitalorgans, delivering nothing but pure, concentrated pato,

Her aim was sharp and wickedly precise.

The group figured that whoever Griffin was to her, he had to have done something on the level of stealing her partner or wrecking her entire life.

Otherwise, nobody would get beaten like this.

“Hurry up and move!” Hayley barked at the people behind her while still pounding Griffis,

The moment they heard her, everyone scrambled to get in line and clip into the harness.

Earlier, they had been scared of sliding from the sixth floor. After watching Hayley fet loose like this, zombies and heights suddenly didn’t seem that terrifying anymore.

They clipped in one after another, sliding and climbing their way across with newfound courage.

On Hayley’s end, after delivering one more round of fatherly-style discipline to Griffin, she grabbed trim by the collar.

“Go on, run! Aren’t you good at running?”

Griffin ducked his head and actually chuckled. Even after getting beaten senseless, he somehow looked like he was having a great time.

“Stop laughing, you jerk!”

Right then…

Bang!

The office door burst inward. The cabinets and the couch blocking it slid back an inch as dozens of pale, shriveled zombie hands shoved through the crack.

Their claws scraped violently at anything they could reach.

Two people still hadn’t crossed.

Hayley rushed to the door, slammed her foot against the cabinet, and braced her whole body to hold back the incoming zombies.

“Move! Now!” she shouted.

Across the gap, Leonard shoved the harness back along the zipline.

The last two survivors clipped in at lightning speed and scrambled up the window frame, sliding and crawling toward safety.

Hayley kept one foot planted against the cabinet, holding the door shut with everything she had, while her free hand clamped onto Griffin.

She pulled a nylon rope from her inventory, tied Griffin up like a hog roast, and looped the other end around her waist. Griffin watched, amused. “Captain Gorgeous, you want me this badly, huh?”

Whack!

Hayley didn’t even pause as she punched him again. His good eye turned into yet another perfect black ring, matching the one he already had.

“Listen up! From now on, you’re not allowed to leave my sight. Not even one damn yard.”

Griffin laughed softly. “Whatabout when I shower or use the batteroom?”

“You’ll do it right in front of me

Griffin stared at her, speechless. Then, with a soft snort, he laughed even harder.

He leaned closer, his voice warm and teasing. “Then when you shower or use the bathroom, you’ll have to do it right in front of

me, too.”
