Chapter 2017
The rumble of the armored truck grew louder, rolling in from a distance.
Hayley heard it, and the tension in her chest finally eased. The zombies climbing beneath her suddenly felt like nothing at all.
She only needed to survive another ten seconds
Right then, Griffin’s voice drifted lazily past her ear. “Captain Gorgeous, I never slept with Megan.”
Hayley turned to him. She wasn’t sure what his point was.
“Wanna get a room with me?”
“Get the hell out of here!” Hayley slammed her elbow backward into his stomach.
But instead of hitting him, her elbow swung through empty air.
The rope tied around her waist loosened, and the tight embrace holding her against the wall suddenly vanished.
She turned just in time to see Griffin falling backward into the sea of zombies.
“Griffin!” she shouted.
He crashed down into the pile of clawing zombies. But instead of tearing him apart, they cushioned his fall. He flattened an entire wave of them.
He stood up in the middle of the swarm, rolled his ankle once until it cracked back into place, and waved up at her with a bright grin.
“Next time you catch me, I’ll go home with you!”
Hayley’s eyes almost popped out of her skull.
Boom!
A furious armored truck shot around the building corner, crushing zombies as it barreled forward until it stopped directly
beneath her.
“Boss!”
Leonard parked with perfect precision and raised the ladder so it reached her position exactly.
Hayley finally had footing. She unwound the cable from her hands in a few quick motions, jumped onto the ladder, and immediately spun around to look for Griffin.
But the massive tide of zombies had already swallowed him completely.
She couldn’t see even a shadow of him.
“Boss! We have to go!” Leonard shouted from inside the vehicle as zombies swarmed over the armored plating, trying to clànb
“Raarh!”
“Raarh!”
“Raarh!”
Thud!
From above, zombies dropped like bats swooping down, diving straight at Hayley on the roof.

Bang!
She kicked one away, drew her blade, and cleared the zombies blocking the engine vents.
“Move!”
With Hayley covering him, Leonard floored the accelerator. The armored truck burst through the twin waves of zombies pouring out of both buildings.
But once they reached the street, the situation only grew worse.
Every zombie from the nearby neighborhood and the tech park rushed toward the sound. A wall of sprinting zombies closed in from every direction.
At this point, even running them over wasn’t enough.
There were too many.
If they didn’t carve a path, the zombies would smother the armored truck entirely.
Hayley saw the sea of bodies blocking the road, and immediately sheathed her knife.
Then, an AK appeared in her hands. She stood on the roof and opened fire on anything that came close.
Rat-tat-tat!
Rat-tat-tat!
Rat-tat-tat!
Even full firepower wasn’t enough.
