When there was something good, Hayley always thought of her own people first
She grabbed Leonard and sat down to eat right away.
When Liam and the others saw that, he said, “Well… I guess we can eat, too.”
“Please, please, help yourselves! This was all prepared especially for you, Captain Caldwell,” Wallace said with a stiff smile that didn’t reach his eyes.
Liam turned to the people behind him and said, “You all go eat, too.”
Derek and the others went to the second table.
When Liam and Wallace sat at Hayley’s table, the big plate of smoked bacon and canned ham was already divided up by Hayley and Leonard and piled into their bowls.
All that was left was a pot of thin vegetable soup and a few sad-looking stir-fried greens.
Hayley gave them a look, then stood up and went over to Derek’s table. “Don’t worry about us. We’ll eat enough.”
Liam and Wallace were speechless.
Hayley barely ate much herself. All the good stuff went straight into Leonard’s bowl.
Of course, it wasn’t because she thought the food was poisoned. She knew Wallace and how this world worked.
Poisoning someone from Base K1 made no sense. Even if it somehow worked, the consequences weren’t something a small base like his could survive.
And in the end, what would he gain? A few trucks of clothes weren’t worth risking everything for.
The risk was way higher than the reward. Wallace liked taking advantage of people, but he wasn’t crazy.
Besides, food was precious now, and poison was just as hard to come by.
Sleeping pills or deadly poison were not exactly easy to find in this world.
One look at the table, and Hayley knew that there was no poison in it.
The truth was simple. She was used to eating better food, and this didn’t interest her much.
If she wasn’t interested, she wouldn’t eat it. But she wasn’t about to waste it either, so she ted it all to Ledhard.
Over at the other table, Derek and the others watched Leonard’s bowl pile up with meat. They even saw Hayley reach over to snag more slices for him.
The jealousy was unreal.
Their boss had always been this biased, and she never even tried to hide it
For a second, everyone was honestly kind of jealous of Leonard
Wallace stared darkly at Hayley across the room and asked, “Captain Caldwell, is Captain Reid really the leader of Haylight Base
”
Liam glanced at him. “Do you think I would lie to you?”
“Of course not,” Wallace quickly said with a smile “I just think Captain Reid is Well, het personality seems a little unusual
“I think she’s great.”

Wallace had nothing to say after that.
If Liam said that, what else could he possibly argue?
Between the two tables, most of the food ended up going to Hayley and Liam’s team.
Liam and Wallace barely ate anything.
After Hayley finished eating, she even helped herself to the candy and alcohol on the table and took them with her.
Wallace’s temple started throbbing as he watched.
He was so angry that he felt smoke rising off his head.
This hurt worse than being slapped in the face!
Once Hayley was full, she headed to the room Wallace had arranged for her.
On the top floor of the factory building, they had prepared five rooms.
