Chapter 256

“I want to ask you to help me process a batch of food,” Liam said.

He had brought a huge amount of supplies with him from the granary mission. However, he had been worried because of p storage conditions.

Now that he saw Hayley had full-scale food processing up and running, he couldn’t help but be tempted.

“Of course. We’re friends,” Hayley said. “Now let’s talk money.”

Liam went quiet. Then, he offered, “For every pound you process, I’ll pay you two-tenths of a pound as a service fee.”

“Half a pound. Also, I’ll let you trade food directly for our dried meal packs. Three pounds of grain for one pound of dried me

Liam thought it over for half a minute. “Deal.”

Hayley made her money by importing raw materials and exporting processed goods, earning a big margin in between.

She had no interest in taking over other bases or controlling them directly.

Rather than becoming a high-responsibility manager, she preferred being the kind of base overlord who only enjoyed the benefits.

Taking over another base meant she would have to feed its people, but trades like this were different.

Her base absorbed ether bases’ raw materials and sent back a small amount of finished goods. In reality, that meant their wealth slowly piled up on her side. She carried no risk and took all the profit.

All she wanted was absolute dominance through trade.

Her ambition wasn’t huge; she just wanted to sit above everyone else.

She wasn’t a saint, and her base wasn’t meant to be gentle either.

After finishing negotiations, they also discussed the direction of the next day’s operation. The meeting went on until midnigh and Hayley arranged for them to stay in Leonard’s cabins.

She went back to her shelter and slept with the dogs.

The next day, everything ran smoothly,

Several vehicles drove into Haylight Base, dropped off a massive load of supplies, then left carrying other goods.

At the same time, one vehicle was speeding toward the city.

There were ten people in it.

“This trip is just for scouting. We’re going in deeper to understand the layout Once we’ve got a solid plan, then we make a tull push,” Hayley said from the middle of the group.

By her side were Leonard and Thomas Liam and Milo brought two people each, while kimber Base only sent Scarlett this trave

This run was only meant as reconnaissance

The remaissing four districts were all densely populated downtown areas After studying the map for a long time, they decided to probe the western side of the city first

The west side had fewer residential areas. It was mostly old malls, abandoned business streets, and a famous old town called Timberfall on the edge of the district

It was also the perfect place to start

Their vehicle rolled into the city streets.

“There really aren’t many zombies here,” Scarlett said as she looked out the window, frowning slightly.

“Pair up. Today, we take this place as our forward base into the west side of the city. Keep quiet, and take out any zombies fast,” Hayley ordered.

“Got it!”

The vehicle stopped on the central bridge in Timberfall.

As soon as the doors opened, a few scattered zombies nearby were drawn toward them.

Milo and his men jumped out first. One thrust of his combat knife split a zombie’s skull open.

With a few quick motions, he dropped three of them.
