The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 259

Chapter 259

“Since Scarlett knows you, and you look like a nice person, I’ll just tell you the truth.” Hayley suddenly looked miserable. ” actually ran away.”

Scarlett’s eyes went wide.

“We came from a small base nearby. The man running that place was a monster. He did horrible things to the girls there. N one of us escaped him. We worked ourselves to the bone every day, and on top of that, we were constantly abused by those animals. Scarlett and I couldn’t take it anymore, so we ran.

Scarlett stared at Hayley, who was lying with a perfectly straight face.

Oh, wow. Did she just recite some soap opera script?

“Scarlett, we finally escaped, and we were taken in by your kind boss. Things will only get better now,” Hayley said, pulling into a hug.

Scarlett nodded stiffly in Hayley’s arms like a prop.

She didn’t talk much anyway, so Wilona didn’t find anything strange.

Still, Wilona looked doubtful. “But your knife work just now was incredible. Can’t you protect yourselves?”

“No matter how good we are, we’re still just normal people. They’re Gifted. How could we ever beat them?”

The moment Wilona heard the word “Gifted”, all the caution in her eyes drained away. Her expression lit up as she looked at two girls.

“That’s great…err, oh, no, I mean, that’s terrible! But you came to the right place. You haven’t eaten yet, have you? Timmy, Charles, go get some food!”

Two of the men guarding the door walked off immediately, but two stayed behind. They were still very cautious.

Hayley took all of it in, then asked casually, “Wilona, who are the people outside?”

“Oh, they’re neighbors we used to run guesthouses with. Scarlett, you should remember the one who dropped the ladder for you. He runs Springhaven Lodge. And the other one is the manager of Turquoise Skies Hotel. As for the two younger guys, one their nephew, and the other is my nephew.”

“And where is everyone else from the guesthouses?” Hayley asked.

Since they came here, Hayley noticed there were five people here, but not a single guest in the whole playe

Wilona’s face stiffened for a moment, then she forced a sinile.

“When the zombie outbreak hit, everyone just tried to save themselves. We barely made it. This was the only building without zombies, so we hid here.”

“What have you been eating all this time?” Hayley pressed

Footsteps sounded outside The youngest man walked in carrying two cups of coffee

“Have some coffee first. Charles is cooking for you,” he said

“Yes, yes, drink up first,” Wilona echoed, quickly pouring coffee for Hayley and Scarlett “I bet you haven’t had good coffee in a while we stocked a lot of coffee beans back when we ran the guesthouses. Otherwise, you probably couldn’t find any during the apocalypse!”
