The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 289

Chapter 289

Hayley was the leader of all these people?

Hayley pushed the door open. “I’m good.”

As she got out of the car, she dragged Griffin down with her.

When Leonard saw Griffin appear again, his eyes went wide. “Boss, what…”

“I’m taking him back to my base first. You all stay put for now. Clear out small groups of nearby zombies. Once I’m back, we’ll launch a full push into the whole district.”

Hayley slung Griffin over her shoulder and headed toward her armored vehicle.

Liam and the others were staring, completely stunned.

What was going on?

That was when Scarlett noticed there were still people in the back seat. “Ms. Reid, you’ve got people in your car.”

“They’re survivors I picked up. Let them do whatever they want,” Hayley said. She tossed Griffin into the armored truck, started it up, and sped off.

She needed to get back and hand the meds to Ruby. Once the spray was developed, she would finally dare to push into the city’s

core.

“Leonard, who was that guy?” Liam asked.

Leonard frowned. “He’s also one of the boss’s people.”

The armored vehicle disappeared down the road.

By around 6 p.m., Hayley made it safely back to her shelter. She hadn’t been back in a while, and the place looked completely

Her original planting area hadn’t been touched, but a ton of decorations had been added. A pebble-lined path now ran around the outer edge of the shelter, bordered by flowers and decorative stone features everywhere you looked.

The open-air dining area now had a delicate, fairy-like gazebo. Even the houses where Leonard and the others lived had been repainted a soft, pretty pink.

Her shelter now looked straight out of a fairy tale, like something from Wonderland.

“Is this spot okay, Aunt Ruby?”

“A little more to the left.”

“How about now?”

“A bit more left.

“Yeah, that’s good. Leave it there.”

A woman in an elegant long dress was directing things in the garden, while a man in a button-down shirt and thick glasses struggled on a ladder, assembling a swing set.

At that moment, he spotted Hayley’s car pulling in.

“Boss! You’re back!”

Ruby, who had been giving instructions, immediately turned around. “Holly!”

“I’m back

Hayley parked the car. The moment she got out, the dogs swarmed her. Ruby and Robert ran toward her at the same time.

Hayley hugged all 16 dogs one by one, and then Ruby pulled her into a tight embrace.

“How are you?”

“I’m great.”

“Let me take a good look at you.” Ruby examined her from head to toe, carefully checking her over.

Ruby’s personality was nothing like Cynthia’s, but when she worried about Hayley, her expression looked uncannily similar. When Hayley saw the tension in Ruby’s brows and eyes, a warm feeling slowly spread through her chest
