After Scarlett left, Griffin spoke up. “Captain Gorgeous, aren’t you giving me any to eat?”
“Want to eat my fist?”
Griffin zipped his mouth.
Just then, voices drifted in from the alley outside.
“Russell, that Alex guy looks ice-cold and totally unapproachable. He’s even more arrogant than us! It’s annoying as hell.”
“Alex has power and resources. Our supplies are almost gone. We have to tie ourselves to a big base. Base K1 and Firebrand Base are both part of the Haylight League, but that league is risky. We should consider Afex instead.”
“No one even takes that Haylight League seriously. They just want to use us as cannon fodder to kill zombies. Dream on!”
“Aren’t you going to the bathroom? A farmer up ahead opened their door. Go there and hurry back. Don’t keep Alex waiting.”
That was when they noticed the two people sitting at the entrance of a self-built rural house, casually munching on nuts.
Chapter 248
Mandy Cook noticed the two people sitting on the low stools at a glance.
One of them, a woman, had her hair tied in a high ponytail. Even in the scorching heat, she wore a full set of sleek combat gear.
She was beautiful, her long hair meat and flowing. Her skin was fair and so flawless that it barely looked like she was living through the apocalypse. She looked even better than Mandy herself.
That was what made it infuriating.
After all, Ironlock Base had extremely solid reserves.
Before the zombie virus broke out, Mandy’s father had sensed trouble coming and prepared early. Everything, including food, water, supplies, energy, and manpower, had been stockpiled.
Their whole family was well protected inside Ironlock Base. They had barely felf any real danger from the apocalypse.
Even so, Mandy still couldn’t live the same way she had before the collapse.
Supplies were limited. Even as a Cook family heiress, she had to conserve. And it hadn’t even been a full year yet. Their stockpiles were already close to running dry, and their quality of life had been dropping fast.
A clear flash of jealousy crossed Mandy’s eyes. How could this woman be living better than her?
Then she noticed the man beside her, casually fanning Hayley.
“Griffin?”
Griffin heard her voice and lazily glanced over, a faint smile tugging at his lips. “Oh, hey. Fancy meeting you here.”
Mandy stormed forward, her face twisted with anger. “Who gave you permission to talk to me, you worthless nobody?”
Hayley paused mid-bite on her cashews and looked at Griffin. “Who’s this? You know her?”
“I don’t know this worthless nobody!” Mandy snapped first, terrified Griffin might admit they were related.
She couldn’t afford that embarrassment.
“Why aren’t you dead yet? Where’s my grandma? Weren’t you in Aecraton? Didn’t you bring her and my two cousins back?
Hayley caught on and asked Griffin, “Is she your sister?”
“I am not related to this useless nobody,” Mandy said with pure disgust, glaring at Griffin. “How are you still alive after the apocalypse? Trash like you should’ve been gone ages ago!”
“If you’re still alive, why wouldn’t I be?” Griffin replied flatly, rare words coming from him.
“How dare you talk back to me!” Mandy shrieked, her face full of hatred.
“You’re the shame of our family, just like that woman who gave birth to you! You’re disgusting, filthy leeches. How can people like you exist? You can’t live without clinging to rich people. You’re like flies and filth. You’re revolting. Just thinking about trash like you sharing our blood makes me sick. You should’ve died long ago!”
Thud!
Mandy was kicked and sent flying.
The woman who had been eating cashews beside Griffin stood up. Her bright eyes were now filled with cold, killing intent.
“I don’t know if Griffin’s what you’re calling him, but your whole family is pure garbage. Flies don’t land on clean things. Instead of yelling at him, why don’t you go deal with the men in your own family? It your place wasn’t rotten to the core, it

wouldn’t stink this badly!”
Griffin looked up at the girl standing in front of him.
