The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 301

Chapter 301

What the people from other bases said made the Cooks’ hearts skip.

Hayley Reid.

The real power behind the Haylight League wasn’t Liam from Base K1, and it wasn’t Milo from Firebrand Base. It was Hayley, the one with almost no reputation.

She was the boss of all of them!

Russell, in particular, was completely shaken.

No matter how many times he replayed it in his head, he never would’ve guessed that Hayley was the true heavyweight of this entire meeting, the person everyone had come to see.

No wonder Alex’s very first question had been about the Haylight League..

And the answer had been standing right in front of them the whole time.

“Aren’t those people from Ironlock Base?”

“Yeah. What’s going on with them?”

Malcolm walked in behind them. Seeing the situation, said, “Captain Reid, the people from Ironlock Base said they only came to meet you.”

“Right. They even said they would only be received by Base K1 or Firebrand Base.”

When Russell heard the murmurs around him, his face fell completely.

This trip was a total disaster.

Alex had already made his stance clear and refused them outright. And now, they had offended the true leader of the Haylight

League.

Not to mention the whole thing with Griffin. There was no way forward anymore.

“We’re leaving,” Russell said, supported by his people as he gave the order.

However…

“Hold on,” Hayley called out lazily.

She couldn’t just let them leave without a little parting gift.

“What do you want now?” Russell asked, glaring at her.

“I just heard your base is out of supplies, right?” Hayley said with a very friendly smile.

Russell’s heart sank. “Captain Reid, are you trying to…”

“That’s right. I want to help you,” Hayley said righteously. “Your base has no supplies. You can’t possibly support this many people. Why don’t you leave these bodyguards behind? I’ll make sure they get fed. ”

Russell’s eyes widened.

Damn it! What kind of person was Hayley?

She beat them senseless, and now, she was poaching their guards, too.

They had brought 80% of their security team with them on this trip. Without these people, Ironlock Base would lose almost ali

its defenses.

They might not even be able to make it back alive.

Could she at least pretend to have a heart?

The worst part was that the men next to Russell were actually tempted.

“I don’t even need to ask how you’ve been living,” Hayley said calmly. “I can promise you one thing. Stick with me, and you’ll get to eat meat.”

The moment those words landed, two bodyguards immediately spoke up.

“I’ll stay!”

“Me too! Ironlock Base isn’t even a base. It’s just the Cook family playing royalty. I’ve wanted out for a long time!”

“I’m staying, too!”

In less than a minute, almost all the bodyguards chose to stay. Only one remained with the Cooks.

After all, this wasn’t ancient times, where they were selling themselves.
