The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 303

Chapter 303

Aside from hitting him, Hayley had honestly been pretty good to Griffin. She treated him the same way she treated Leonard, Thomas, and Robert.

But somehow, it was as if he were literally heartless. No matter what she gave him, none of it ever seemed to reach him.

He was cold to the bone, yet he always wore a playful, warm smile.

“Forget it.”

Everyone had flaws. No matter what, Hayley was sure there was always a weak point to be found.

“Let’s eat first.”

After seeing the Cooks leave, Malcolm arranged for everyone to have dinner.

As the host base for the meeting, Ember Base put together a spread to welcome everyone. Each table had four dishes and a pot of soup, with pasta as the main staple.

The food was simple: bacon, diced ham, pickles, fried instant noodles, and a thin soup made from instant broth and dried meal packs.

The dried meal packs and instant noodles had been traded from Hayley. The bacon, ham, and pickles were supplies they had gotten after recapturing the city. Fresh food in the city had mostly gone bad, but bacon, canned ham, and pickled goods were still perfectly fine.

To Hayley and her people, this was everyday food. Honestly, it wasn’t even great by their standards.

But to everyone else from the other bases, this was basically a luxury banquet.

“It’s so good!”

“This is amazing!”

“It’s delicious!”

Even though Griffin’s loyalty meter hadn’t gone up, Hayley could clearly feel that he had changed quite a bit.

While Hayley was eating, Griffin picked out a bottle of peach juice for her from the sodas and fruit drinks Malcolm had prepared.

“Captain Gorgeous, have some juice.”

At the same time, Liam handed her a bottle of cola.

After glancing at the peach juice, Hayley took the drink from Griffin, twisted the cap open, and took a sip. “I like peach juice better.”

Hearing that, Liam quietly pulled his hand back. “Got it.”

Hayley usually drank cola, and he had no idea she preferred fruit juice.

Griffin lowered his head and chuckled softly.

Halfway through her drink, Hayley suddenly realized something. Even Liam didn’t know she preferred juice. So why did Griffin grab the peach juice right away?

“You knew?”

Griffin smiled faintly. “I noticed you prefer sweeter flavors and fresh dishes. I figured you’d like peach juice more. Looks like I guessed right.”

Hayley was stunned.

She finally understood why so many girls liked him. Griffin was frighteningly sharp, incredibly good at reading people, and always hit the mark.

After the meal, the other bases that had come for the meeting were completely won over by the food alone.

From this, they could already see the strength of the Haylight League. Haylight League really did seem trustworthy.

“How many bases showed up this time?” Hayley asked.

“Twenty-one in total. No, now it’s twenty,” Alex replied.

“As far as I know, there are 29 bases still active in this region. Six small bases have lost contact, and 5 are too far away to make it here.”

Hayley nodded. That was pretty much what she had expected.

There were also quite a few small human settlements that barely counted as bases. They probably hadn’t even received the message.
