The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 309

After Jim finished speaking, he saw Milo turn back into the vehicle, as if discussing something with the others.

A moment later, Milo looked back at him. “Thanks, kid.”

Jim noticed that the armored vehicle didn’t head into the mountains. Instead, it pulled over to the side of the road.

A group climbed out of the vehicle, looking like they were setting up camp on the spot. Seeing that they weren’t going any farther in, Jim finally let out a small breath of relief.

Just then, raised voices erupted from his own team behind him.

“Norris! You jerk! What the hell was that just now? You tried to use me as a freaking shield?”

The tall, skinny man called Norris Tomlinson looked annoyed. “Didn’t you come out fine?”

“Fine? You almost got me killed! This isn’t the first time you’ve used us as shields! Sherry died because of you!”

“Desperate situation, desperate measures.” Norris shrugged, his narrow eyes gleaming coldly. “So what if I used you as a shield? You’re just a tramp anyone can push around. Don’t think I don’t know how many men you’ve slept with.”

“You’re dead!” Bridget clenched her teeth, pulled a dagger, and lunged at him.

The other two women rushed to stop her.

“Bridget, don’t waste your energy on trash like him.”

“Bridget, forget it. He’s an inventory-variant Gifted. We still need him to carry supplies.”

“Heh, you think I’m scared?” Norris taunted. “Come on, then. You don’t have the guts, you tramp!”

“Shut up!” Bridget snarled.

Jim walked over, his face dark.

The moment Norris saw him, he switched expressions and smiled. “Oh, hey, Jim. Didn’t see you there.”

Jim looked at Norris with undisguised disgust.

Norris was the only inventory-type Gifted on their team.

In the apocalypse, inventory abilities were invaluable. Norris’s storage space was over 100 square feet, and every time they went out, he carried all the supplies.

Right now, everything they owned was in Norris’s inventory.

No matter how much Jim hated Norris, he couldn’t touch Norris.

“Apologize to Bridget,” Jim said.

“Don’t think that’s necessary,” Norris replied lazily. “Instincts kick in during emergencies I didn’t mean it. Besides, she’s gobs, barely any abilities, so what’s wrong with using her as cover? I’m way more valuable than her ”

“Apologize!” Jim’s tone lost all warmth, turning cold and sharp.

Norris’s grin faded. Clearly annoyed, he finally muttered, “Fine. My bad”

Then, he walked off.

That attitude only made Bridget angrier.

Jim sighed. “Bridget, let it go. Do it for me.”

Bridget’s eyes instantly turtred red. “If George were still alive, he would’ve torn Norris apart!”

She ran off after saying that

At Jim’s signal, the other two women followed to keep her company.

Jim stayed behind with the rest of the group, flipping their vehicle back over to see if it could still run.

The sun was already setting.

Over on Hayley’s side, they finished setting up camp. After clearing out all wandering zombies within about half a mile, everyone gathered together.

“We move again tomorrow during the day. Be careful tonight.”
