The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 348

Chapter 348

Griffin’s voice rang in Hayley’s ear. “It’s the Zombie King of this area. It’s calling in the surrounding zombies.”

As soon as Griffin finished speaking, the Zombie King charged straight at Hayley.

“Run!”

Hayley sprinted at full speed.

As she ran, the ventilation ducts overhead kept crashing down one after another. Behind her, the mutated zombie ran wildly along the fallen pipes the entire time.

What surprised Hayley was that even at this speed, the woman didn’t fall behind at all. She stayed right on Hayley’s heels, ne more than half a step away.

The number of zombies around them kept growing.

Just as they were about to be completely surrounded, the woman behind Hayley suddenly shouted, “Dad!”

Hayley carved a bloody path forward and saw, among the oncoming wave of zombies, a short, skinny old man wearing jeans, black short-sleeved T-shirt, and a construction helmet. He was maybe five-foot-six.

A name tag hung on his chest.

Patrick Sanders.

“Dad! Dad!”

The moment she saw him, the woman ran even faster than Hayley.

She charged straight toward the zombie crowd, completely unaware of the danger.

At that moment, a dark shadow flashed overhead.

The Zombie King leaped high into the air and lunged straight for Hayley.

Just as Hayley was about to draw her blade for a life-or-death fight, she suddenly dodged hard to the right and shouted at the

woman.

“Move!”

Hayley had seen a massive section of duct crashing straight down above her, right where they were standing

Boom!

Hayley dove to the right as the falling duct slammed down, crushing the Zombie King underneath it.

“Raarh!”

“Raarh!”

Both zombie heads screamned horribly as they were pinned.

Hayley flicked her wrist. A throwing blade flew out and ended the mutated Zombie King in one strike.

After dealing with it, Hayley immediately turned to look toward the woman.

If nothing unexpected had happened, she should’ve been dead.

But what Hayley saw made her freeze.

The woman was kneeling on the ground. The fallen duct had brushed past her head and was being propped up by a zombie

The duct had smashed down on the zombie wearing the construction helmet. A steel rod had pierced straight through the top of its head, pinning it in place. The helmet was cracked with deep fractures.

Hayley’s chest tightened hard for reasons she couldn’t explain.

She knew it had to be a coincidence.

The zombie had just happened to be hit by the falling duct.

It had just happened to land sight in front of the woman.

But it was her father.

He had blocked a fatal blow for her.

Hayley remembered what the woman had told her.

When she was sent to the hospital, her father had been taken away by the police.

So after the zombie outbreak, her father must’ve fought his way back here as fast as he could, just to find his daughter.

No matter what, he had always been thinking about her.

“Dad… Dad!”

“Raarh!”
