“Have a seat.”
Hayley led Alex and the rest over to the pink gazebo Ruby had built
Liam and Milo had been here once before. It hadn’t looked like this back then This time, they couldn’t help but admire it.
“Looks great.”
“It’s way better than before.”
“Of course. Aunt Ruby’s got great taste,” Hayley said with a hint of pride.
“Kids, time to eat,” Ruby said, carrying over a large tray of snacks.
There were cakes and breads she had baked, all kinds of dried snacks, and a big pitcher of fruit tea in
the middle.
Only then did Liam and Milo realize that calling her Aunt Ruby all this time really made sense.
“Thanks, Aunt Ruby.”
“Appreciate it, Aunt Ruby.”
This was Alex’s first time meeting Ruby. Seeing everyone address her so naturally, the usual cold look on his face froze for a moment.
Aunt Ruby?
“What are you standing there for? Say hi to Aunt Ruby,” Milo said.
“This is Hayley’s aunt,” Liam explained. “She invented the anti-zombie spray our team uses.
At the mention of zombie-sensitivity spray, Alex’s expression instantly lit up.
He stared at Ruby in shock,
So she was the one who invented it!
Alex’s team focused on studying the zombie virus. They had been at it for a long time and had only scratched the surface.
After joining Haylight League, Alex had noticed that everyone carried a few vials of that spray before every mission.
When he realized what it was, he was completely stunned.
That level of shock was second only to seeing Hayley’s evolution serum.
That research was incredible. Absolutely top-tier.
46 Porus
And now, he was staring at the person behind it.
“May I ask your full name?” Alex stood up immediately, his tone unusually respectful
Seeing how serious he was, Ruby waved a hand and smiled. “Why are you interested in my name?
“I used to be an executive at Dawn Holdings,” Alex said, far more polite than usual. “Since you invented the anti-zombie spray, you must be an expert in the field. You must’ve heard of our company”
Ruby nodded knowingly. “Oh, you’re from Dawn Holdings. I remember now. I evaluated several of your group’s research projects back then.”
Alex froze.
Anyone qualified to evaluate Dawn Holdings’ research was a true authority in the field.
He looked at the young woman in front of him, a name suddenly surfacing in his mind.
“Wait. Are you… Rue?”
Ruby smiled faintly. “Just call me Aunt Ruby. I don’t go by that anymore.”
Alex’s eyes widened.
If there was one person in the world he most wanted to recruit, the virus expert Rue was definitely on
that list.
At Hope Base, their standards for recruiting even ordinary people were sky-high. For Rue, he would practically be begging on his knees to recruit her.
And now, the talent he had dreamed of was right in front of him.
“Why are you staring at Aunt Ruby like that?” Hayley slapped the table.
Alex snapped out of it.
After the shock wore off, he looked at Ruby again, filled with regret.
If she belonged to any other base, he would spare no cost to bring her over. Someone of her caliber would be treated like royalty.
