The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 366

Chapter 366

  • 15 Bors

The beam from Hayley’s headlamp landed squarely on the zombie train conductor’s face

Everything around them was pitch black. The stark white light hit the zombie’s dead face head on,

bleaching it into something terrifyingly pale.

It looked like the conductor had been bitten and infected by passengers. There was a massive bloody hole in his neck, and the area around the cab door was splattered with dark, dried blood and countless

handprints.

One look told the whole story. The conductor had been dragged down and torn apart by zombies outside. In his final moments, he had fought his way back into the driver’s cab.

Not long after, he had turned and locked himself inside.

Bang!

Hayley pulled out a hammer and slammed it hard into the four corners of the train’s windshield.

With her raw strength, even reinforced safety glass couldn’t take more than two hits.

When the zombie conductor inside saw the glass cracking, it went wild with excitement. The moment the glass broke open, it lunged straight at Hayley with its mouth wide open.

She shoved the hammer straight into its mouth.

“Eat up!”

Without hesitation, Hayley jammed the hammer between its jaws, locking them apart. She surged forward, driving the heavy metal head straight down its throat until it burst out the back of its skull.

Clink!

A crystal core dropped to the floor. The zombie conductor, who hadn’t even gotten a single bite, died with deep regret.

After taking it down, Hayley waved at her team.

“Set the traps.”

“On it!”

There were far too many zombies inside this train. With Hayley’s cautious nature, there was no way she would leave something this dangerous untouched.

Even if the subway car looked solid and the zombies were sealed inside, they were about to dig through the tunnel. One mistake could be fatal.

Leonard and the others jumped down into the tunnel, anchoring steel cables lined with blades and barbs into the walls. They worked up and down, weaving a deadly mesh.

At the same time, Hayley entered the front of the train and forced the cab door open

The moment it opened, the zombies inside poured out, snarling and howling as they charged toward the scent of living humans in the tunnel.

In less than ten minutes, zombie corpses were piled high in front of the train.

Only after clearing them out did Hayley finally move deeper into the tunnel without holding back

According to the map, the tunnel ran beneath the amusement park. The closest point to the underground shelter was just over 330 feet away.

Hayley stopped at that point and stared at the concrete outer wall, once again deep in thought.

Subway tunnels were almost always dug with tunnel boring machines, then reinforced with injected slurry that hardened into a solid shell. The wall in front of her was anything but fragile.

Under normal circumstances, her best option would’ve been explosives. However, Alex had warned her not to use heavy weapons.

If an explosion triggered another zombie surge, being underground would leave them with nowhere to

run.
