Chapter 367

Liam and Kit’s group dug nonstop through the entire night and managed to clear about 65 feet

The physical effort itself was brutal but manageable.

The real problem was that they only had three bottles of water. By the next day, all three bottles were

gone.

Liam couldn’t stop it even if he wanted to.

With over 100 people, that tiny amount of water barely gave everyone a single sip.

The one saving grace was that Liam had an ice-variant ability among his three gifts. He immediately gathered containers and released large ice spikes.

But ice-variant gifts melted slowly and poorly. They were combat-oriented, not meant for daily survival. Even after completely draining his energy, it took ten hours of melting just to get half a basin of water.

Liam could keep everyone alive, sure, but if you were dying of thirst, waiting for his ice to melt was honestly worse than drinking your own urine.

“If Leonard were here, that’d be great,” Derek muttered hoarsely after digging all night. His throat felt like it was on fire. “I’m dying of thirst.”

“You’re out already?” Ethan asked.

“Yeah. All gone.”

Ethan generously pulled out his small canteen. “I’ve still got a bit left. Drink mine.”

Derek paused.

“Don’t worry about it. Drink up. Once you’re done, I’ll go pee again. I’ve still got more.”

Derek stared at Ethan in silence. He took the canteen despite himself. The moment he twisted the cap open, he stopped.

Never mind.

“It probably doesn’t taste that strong right now,” Ethan added helpfully. “Later, it’ll be way worse.”

“No, thanks. I’ll just go chew on ice,” Derek said, handing the canteen back.

Even though Ethan claimed it was considered mild, he would rather die of thirst.

He could tolerate his own pee, but drinking others’ was a hard no.

Derek stood up and went to the corner where the ice was piled. Like everyone else, he snapped off a chunk and held it in his mouth, slowly licking it.

The ice produced by ice-variant abilities barely melted at all, and it was far colder than normal ice. It

didn’t really quench thirst and actually harmed the body.

But when everyone was so desperately thirsty, none of that mattered.

Their throats were burning. They were so dehydrated that some of them couldn’t even pee anymore. People were so thirsty they wanted to lie flat on the floor and lick the faint traces of melted ice.

Even in these extreme conditions, after a short rest, Derek and the others got back up without a single. complaint and kept digging.

Above them was a zombie horde that could break in at any moment. No one could afford to stop.

They all had to survive.

On Hayley’s side, they had also been digging all night.

They had supplies and plenty of water. When people got hungry, they ate while digging. Buckets of water were set nearby.

They were using power drills, and to keep the tools from overheating, Leonard fully activated his water- element ability, soaking the tunnel wall as they pushed forward.

After an entire night, they managed to dig nearly 100 feet despite the group being only 11 people strong.

The moment they broke past that distance, Hayley’s expanded mental awareness suddenly picked up faint signs of life at the edge of her range.

“Hold on.”

Hayley signaled everyone to stop. She pressed against the inner wall and pushed her mental energy outward to its limit.
