The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 387

Chapter 387

After Monica heard the news, waves of turmoil surged through her heart.

She sat alone in her office for a long time. After nearly a full hour of thinking, she finally decided to evar uate with Hayley.

Once the decision was made, she iffimediately ordered everyone to start packing and bring all supplies with them.

The other residents had no objections at all.

Many of them were Evergreen Mall employees. When the zombie outbreak happened, they had taken shelter inside the mall, so naturally, they followed Monica’s lead.

Another group consisted of survivors Monica had taken in later. They followed her just as firmly.

After giving the orders, Monica looked around one last time, then walked alone toward the rooftop.

It was evening. The fiery sunset set the clouds ablaze in brilliant colors.

To the west, the sky faded into deep blue, and one or two gemlike stars had already appeared on the horizon.

If they could ignore the massive waves of zombies wandering below their feet, this would’ve been a beautiful

moment.

Monica stood at the rooftop entrance, watching a man tending to a body lying on the ground.

Danny had changed Simon into clean clothes, placed cigarettes beside him, splashed bourbon over his body, and finally raised a flame in his palm.

The fire quickly swallowed the corpse.

Monica stayed there the entire time, until Danny burned the body down into a pile of blackened ash.

Danny scattered the ashes into the zombie horde below.

Raarh!

Raarh!

Raarh!

Seeing the gift fall from the sky, the zombies below let out excited roars, surging and leaping like fish breaking the surface of water.

It was a shame.

The body was burned to charcoal, so there was nothing left to eat.

Danny stared at the zombies below that had devoured his brother. He raised his crossbow and shot them one by one, venting his fury.

Only after every bolt was gone did he finally lower his arm.

I’ll wipe every last one of you out someday! Stupid apocalypse!

Monica’s eyes flickered as she heard his roar.

At that moment, Danny turned around. He saw Monica sitting by the rooftop door. Without a word, he strode past

The gentleness he once showed her was completely gone.

Danny.. Danny.Monica stood up. I need to talk to you.

Danny ignored her and went straight downstairs. The moment he reached the floor, he saw everyone packing up.

What are you doing?

Ms. Fletcher said we’re evacuating tomorrow with the group downstairs.

Hearing that, fury flared up again inside Danny.

Damn it! The group downstairs again!

Danny, I just wanted to talk this through. They’re breaking out tomorrow, and they can take us with them. I think leaving Brookville with them is the right choice,Monica said in one breath.
