Chapter 419

“Feel better now?” Hayley asked.

“Yeah!” Nash’s still boyish face up as he nodded hard at Hayley.

“Good.” She turned to Sawyer. “Next time, be more polite to my people.”

Hearing that, Sawyer lowered his head respectfully, though his eyes were filled with gloom.

“Captain Reid, there’s something I want to talk to you about,” Scott said at that moment.

“Sure, go ahead.”

“I want to change how we evacuate, A helicopter can only take a few people at a time. We lost a third of our people in just one zombie wave last night. You saw it yourself. Flying people out like this is too slow.”

“That’s true.” Hayley nodded in agreement.

“So why don’t you contact the outside and have Milo come support us?”

“My pull might not be that strong. They’re all busy with other things. Sending me here already means I’m the lowest rank and the least useful. The biggest help I can offer is the helicopter,” Hayley said.

Scott looked at her gently. “If you really can’t convince them, then just officially join us. I’ll take care of you. You won’t have to go back.”

Hayley paused.

She went back and pretended to send a radio message.

After she left, Sawyer stared at her back with vicious hatred in his eyes.

He figured that Hayley was just throwing her weight around because of a little status. In reality, she had no real strength at all.

Their boss had already been extremely tolerant toward her. There was no way he would keep indulging her forever.

In their boss’s eyes, once someone stayed, the only standard was whether they were useful or not.

If she stayed, he would definitely make her suffer.

And judging by how she had no real ability and always hid behind Scott, he was convinced a useless pretty face like that wouldn’t be riding high for much longer!

Sawyer shot Hayley a hard glare and turned away.

Five minutes later, Hayley told everyone to retreat west. Milo would try to break through today.

Everyone was shaken when they heard that.

“Make sure your dad keeps his head down and stays close to you,” Hayley said to Nash

“Okay!”

Everyone began retreating west.

After going about half a mile, Scott suddenly stopped.

“Something’s wrong

“What is it?” Hayley looked at him.

Scott eyed Hayley with suspicion. “Are you sure it’s west?”

Hayley met his gaze. “Yeah.”

“Really?”

“Really.”

“Then Milo’s trying to kill you.’

When Hayley heard that, her heart skipped.

Scott looked straight into her eyes. “My other gift is danger prediction. There’s a zombie tide coming from the west.”

Hayley froze.

“Everyone, fall back!” Scott turned and led everyone to retreat.

From the west came a roar as a massive wave of zombies charged in.

Huge numbers of zombies poured out endlessly, even more than last night. In the blink of an eye, the zombie tide wrapped them up completely.

This was, of course, Hayley’s doing.

She had Griffin lure the zombie tide over to pin Tomorrow Base down so she could escape in the chaos.

After dealing with Scott up close, Hayley felt that the scheming man was better off playing his games alone.

She was done dealing with him. She planned to leave today and abandon all of them in the wetlands park.

The helicopter had already been arranged half a mile ahead. According to the plan, when they arrived, they would run into the zombie tide. Scott’s people would fall into chaos fighting for half a minute, and she would be able to retreat on the helicopter.

But she hadn’t expected Scott’s other gift to be a prediction-type gift.

He predicted the danger minutes ahead and retreated.

Watching the destination grow farther and farther away, she knew they couldn’t keep retreating.

Hayley’s head ached.

What now?

They couldn’t push through.

“Everyone has to kill zombies! Anyone who doesn’t fight can die!”

While Hayley was thinking, Tomorrow Base was pushed into a complete dead end by the zombie tide.

This wave was truly massive, and their population had already taken a sharp hit the night before.

The people of Tomorrow Base were being worn down wave after wave.

Those who fell were lucky if they died.

The unlucky ones were bitten and turned into zombies. They then crawled back up and turned on the humans.

There was always a balance point between humans and zombies. When humans were many, zombies were fewer. But as human numbers dropped bit by bit, humanity’s luck was slowly drained away.

In front of Hayley, Scott had switched to a different blade. This one clearly didn’t suit him as well. After hacking down dozens of zombies, the blade chipped.
