The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 428

Chapter 428

“Vanessa! Vanessa, hang on!”

“Aaaah…” The scream faded, growing weak.

Hearing that, Matt charged straight through the curtain. “Vanessa! Vanessa, what’s wrong? We’re not having the baby anymore! We’re not having it!”

“Oh, no! Boss!” A clear female voice rang out anxiously from behind the curtain. “Vanessa’s in obstructed labor!”

Raymond, who was waiting outside, darkened instantly and strode inside. “Obstructed labor?”

“Yes. Vanessa’s hemorrhaging badly. I can’t stop it. I’m out of options!” the woman said.

The moment he heard that, Matt shouted, “Forget the baby! I don’t want the baby anymore! Save her! You have to save her!”

“This isn’t about choosing the baby or the mother. Vanessa’s bleeding out. I don’t have the tools or the medicine. can’t save either of them!”

“I’ll get the tools! I’ll go out right now!” Matt said, frantic.

“Matt, calm down. She’s already hemorrhaging. Even if you brought tools back, Vanessa wouldn’t last that long!”

“Then what do you want me to do? Watch my wife die?”

“Matt, I…”

“I’m begging you! Please save my wife! Vanessa’s my life! Please, I’m begging you! Save her. Save her!” Matt groveled before the female medic, looking utterly disheveled.

The medic looked at Matt, completely helpless. There was nothing she could do.

At that moment, a clear voice rang out.

“Let me take a look.”

Hayley’s voice cut through the chaos, and everyone turned to stare at her.

Ignoring their gazes, Hayley walked behind the curtain.

A thin woman lay on a makeshift bed piled with cotton padding. Blood soaked beneath her, and she had already passed out from the pain.

In the apocalypse, surviving as an adult was hard enough. Giving birth was even worse. Long-term malnutrition and almost nonexistent medical conditions made labor difficult and inevitable.

Hayley reached out to check her breathing.

A hand suddenly blocked hers.

“You really have a way?” Raymond stared at her coldly, his expression severe.

“As long as she’s still breathing, I can keep her alive,” Hayley said.

She had a system issued emergency pill.

As long as Vanessa was bro it could save her.

Hearing the certainty in her voice, Raymond hesitated. He frowned deeply. “Think carefully. If you don’ intervene, this has nothing to do with you. But once you do, you’re responsible.”

Matt also looked up at her, staring hard.

He wanted to speak, but whatever curses or pleas he had all got swallowed back down. All that remained was his unblinking stare.

Feeling those on her, Hayley brushed Raymond’s hand aside and checked Vanessa’s breathing
